Let's hear it for the big roll!Posted Friday, April 16, 2010, at 10:13 PM
First, let me say that I hope this subject is not offensive to the readers.
Jim and I travel a great deal. We may drive to East Tennessee, visit my sister in Mississippi or our son in Florida, fly across the country, wherever. We also eat out way too much. While traveling, eating in restaurants, visiting doctors' offices, even attending basketball games, we use public restrooms. Remember the service stations many years ago? How many times were they out of toilet tissue? I'm sure there are ladies out there who still carry extra tissues with them - just in case. That's why I'm thankful for the big rolls of tissue they now use in most public restrooms. Usually the wall container holds 2 of those large rolls. With all the traveling we have done in recent months, I found only one restroom had an inadequate supply of tissue. That was at a high school in a neighboring town. (Yes, we beat the home teams.) So, along with Post-it notes and Liquid Paper, the large roll of toilet tissue has become a valuable addition to the well being of our people. Love it. great , fun post. And sadly I do remember the old days of the fear of being "unprepared". LOL
Remember those awful cloth hangy-things in restrooms that looked like they were put there during the Truman administration? Yuck!
I once saw a McDonald's at an interstate exit that had a special switch, near the light switch, with a sign asking patrons to flip the switch if there was anything in the restroom that needed attention. I thought that was a great idea; I assume it turned on some sort of signal light in the kitchen or the office.
how funny yeah my mom had the huge purse with the supply in it.
I think the restaurants and gas stations figured out that those big rolls were also a lot harder to steal!
Ya I remember when the restrooms at the gas stations wern't locked and you didn't have to go in and ask the attendent for the hubcap with the key attached. Now when you see a sign that says"Clean Restrooms" I think they mean that you are expected to clean it yourself before you can use it. I still carry tissue with me just in cast they havent heard of the BIG ROLL. Maybe I should carry a package of Clorox wipes too.
