On January 2, 2010, I wrote in this blog that I wanted to find a first cousin in Florida. We had been out of touch for years. He had tried to reach me, but we had not connected. I wrote that the next afternoon I would start my search to find him. I did not use his name.
If you read the blogs last year, you may remember that I did not follow through on my vow to start my search the next day. However, the following day, a voice message on my phone said, "Hello, Betty. This is Pat. You said you were going to call me, but I am calling you."
It felt a bit freaky, actually. He had finally put the right name in his cell phone and came up with not only my name, but also my picture and the blog I had just written about plans to find my cousin in Florida. He was definitely the cousin.
We have corresponded during the year, and I told him the next time we were in Florida we would visit him. That we did. We went down to see our son and grandson in the Orlando area, but first we drove to Tampa and spent a little bit of time with Pat. We had not seen him since his mother's death in 1993. Since that time he had lost his sister, and I had lost my father. He has had some serious health problems too.
It was good to see Pat. I couldn't believe how much he resembles his mother.
Without this blog, I don't know when Pat and I would have connected. Thank you, Times Gazette, for providing this opportunity.
