Do some TV ads annoy you?

Posted Monday, October 8, 2007, at 3:08 PM

Do you find some television ads annoying and distracting, even to the point of giving you a negative attitude toward the product or service they are advertising?

Which do you find the most annoying?

I dislike those ads urging viewers to go heavily in debt to them; such as selling you a car even if you have horrible or no credit; loaning you money in exchange for your car title; or getting a loan on the equity in your home so you might have money for some frivolous purpose.

Those darned LOUD proactiv commercials....I never knew Jessica Simpson was that loud.

OH MY...those "Head on, apply directly to your forehead" commercials. I have not bought their product hoping they would go out of business and not be able to do anymore ads.

Oh and the 1-800- safeauto ones.

I think Everybody hates the Headon commercial..

I hate the meow mix one too.

I also hate the Dr. Scholl's Are You Gellin?

Oh and those NV commercials that Anna Nicole used to do.....puke!

We seem to be annoyed by some of the same ads. I'm tired of seeing those water skiiers have a bad accident because those in the boat were thinking Arby's.

Thank you! I don't like that one either!

Or the Krystal's commercials where the college kids are yelling pretty much the whole time.

Oh and the "crazy as a fox" infomercial!

I am also beginning to get tired of the Sonic commercials.

I love the bud light commercial where the guy sneaks the glass bottle beers into the opera and they break in his pocket when the singer hits the high note. LOL!!! Sometimes the good ones can make up for the bad ones.

The cavemen (Geico) commercials used to be good, but I'm a little tired of them now.

The newest commercials that I hate are the one with the men running around with red hair and pigtails for Wendy's...UGH!!

-- Posted by stolen25 on Mon, Oct 8, 2007, at 5:57 PM

Head-On commericals were supposed to be annoying. That is genius marketing... You know what, because you mentioned it now, which means you remembered it... Their annual sales and profit margins have tripled... "Apply directly to your forehead." LMAO!

I hate those Wendy's commercials too.

Do any of you remember the McDonalds commercials that always had a touching endings..kinda like a Hallmark card..I loved those don't know why they stopped them.

All the California Cheese commercials are masterpieces, they remind me of the days when advertising was related to the product and were keen and memorable. The latest one I've seen is the meditating duck, have you seen that one? It is great.

Publix does a great job with TV ads that I find interesting and worth watching.

-- Posted by bomelson on Mon, Oct 8, 2007, at 7:05 PM

I hate the ones about "blocking you from my TV" especially the one with the drugged out guy and the gangsters. I also hate the "I save a lot of money by switching to Geico" ones like the one that makes fun of the Hallmark commercials. AFLACCCCC- need I say more.

-- Posted by EastSideMom on Mon, Oct 8, 2007, at 8:15 PM

One of the best ones i think is the Geico commerical with Jed Clampett on his computer saving money on his insurance.

-- Posted by cordell on Tue, Oct 9, 2007, at 8:09 AM

I hate the ones for the cell phone service where everyone is speaking in text language . . . its so annoying!!!!!

And yeah, the Wendys commercials with the guys in red wigs is kind of creepy.

-- Posted by jaxspike on Tue, Oct 9, 2007, at 8:17 AM

How about this one?

"Gotta Go Gotta Go Gotta go Gotta Go Right now"

I don't even remember what it is for I just remember that woman running around saying she had to go..I am assuming it was either a pill so she didn't have to go or diapers. :>)

ALL commercials get on my nerves. I'd rather get to watch more of my "show".

Plus, they are way too loud.

-- Posted by mmp84 on Tue, Oct 9, 2007, at 9:22 PM

They are louder than the regular programs wonder why that is?

I guess it is to get your attention.

-- Posted by Dianatn on Tue, Oct 9, 2007, at 9:33 PM

Actually, commercials are not technically louder than the program, they are just perceived to be louder. I has to do with the dynamic range of the sound. A commercial's sound is more compressed, has more mids and seems louder. If you were to look at the audio levels of a VU meter you would see that the loudness is the same.

As far as I know, it is illegal to have commercials louder than the program so they use tricks to make them sound louder to get your attention.

Well they must have done some tricks to the Proativ commercial with Jessica Simpson. It actually makes me start to dislike her, it is so loud.

I'm remembering a news-program talking about how the editing in TV shows is much faster than it used to be. It is supposed to make us feel more hurried and anxious so we think we need whatever is advertised, which is editied to flash from scene to scene even faster and talk fast as they can. Thats pretty sneaky but I'd say it seems to work nicely.

My son loves the Arby's water skiing commercial so much he kept rewinding the dvr so he could watch it over & over! He also loves those stupid wigged Wendy's commercials.

I never did like the caveman commercials or the Krystal commercials that show more skin than burgers.

I liked the old Kroger commercial with the 2 boys eating watermelon and one tells the other his favorite part of the watermelon is the seeds. The other boy tells him a watermelon will grow in his belly and about that time a 9 month pregnant woman walks down the sidewalk and all you hear is spit spit spit!

I don't watch commercials anymore since I got a DirectTv DVR :)-

I don't bout any of you, but I get annoyed by the local car commercial, the name escapes me but it always has a bunch of kids in it and they have a ferris wheel in the background. I think it may be carnival Kia.

-- Posted by jesuslovesevery1 on Thu, Oct 11, 2007, at 4:02 PM

I hate the Burger King Commercials with the "Whopper" & "Whopper Jr."... to me this is just advertising for kids to disrespect their parents!

I also hate the Geico one that makes fun of the Hallmark commercials... and the HEADON!

But I kinda like the "Chatty Kathy" Geico commercial... "Pull that string just one more time... I dare ya!" HILARIOUS!!!!

I love love love the Geico gecko! He's fantastic.
