My favorite Manning quarterbackPosted Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 3:11 PM
My favorite Manning quarterback is neither Peyton of the Colts nor Eli of the Super Bowl-bound New York Giants.
Nope, my favorite Manning quarterback is their father, Archie, who was an All-American at Ole Miss and a two-time All-Pro selection while running for his life during a long career with the New Orleans Saints. Archie, who was drafted by major league baseball teams, after graduating from high school and again after college, was, in my opinion, perhaps the toughest of the three. As I recall he once played in college with a broken left arm, a very gutsy move then or now for a quarterback. He certainly wasn't the best passer in the family but definitely the best runner. Young fans never had the chance to either see in person or watch Archie Manning in action. on television. I think they would have liked him. Which Manning is your favorite quarterback? Why? You know Bo, I've had this same conversation with many folks that rave about Peyton & Eli. I have to agree with you on all counts...Archie was the toughest and the best runner of the three. I also remember him from Ole Miss & Saints days.
I do think Peyton is the best passer and some may not like what I have to say about Eli, but I think he's the best whiner and least classy. I base this on when he was coming out of college and said he would not play for San Diego if they drafted him. Others may disagree with me on my opinion about Eli, but everyones entitled to one and that's mine.

If I am not mistaken Eli did not want to go to San Diego because of his Dad's insistence that he decline. I do not have a favorite, but I am happy for Eli. He does not seem to whine as much as Peyton in the games that I have watched. I have been told that the older brother may have been the best athlete of them all, but had his career cut short due to injury. I believe he played receiver at Ole Miss.
KParker you are correct on Cooper Manning. He was an outstanding wide receiver but his athletic careeer was cut short when he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a congenital disease that could have left him paralyzed.
I know that you are probably right about Archie being the best Manning Bo. However, I still have not been able to get over the fact that Archie and "his mules" beat the University of Tennessee by a score of 38-0 on November 15, 1969.
One thing I found while looking up information on Archie you might find interesting leeiii.
During his senior season, 1991, at Isadore Newman High School, a private school, Cooper Manning caught 76 passes for 1,250 and 13 touchdowns from the team's sophomore quarterback. a guy by the name of Peyton Manning.
Cooper had planned to go to Ole Miss. The brothers had hoped to play college football together. If not for Cooper's medical condition, would Peyton have followed Cooper to Ole Miss?
As close as that family is, I think it's highly likely that Peyton would have followed Cooper. Boy, do you think that might have changed a couple of coaches' careers?
Tim and Bo, yes I think it is very likely that Peyton and Cooper both would have ended up at Ole Miss. As it was it seems to me that Oliva had a hard time accepting that Peyton had chosen to attend UT.
