I don't even know the law for deadbeat parents but whatever it is, it doesn't work. Child support should be taken from the parents paycheck. If they won't work then send them to jail until they will work. You think its that way now but its not. A deadbeat parent can be in the system for years, not work, not pay a dime , show up for court or not and still not go to jail. It amazes me. I have witnessed this happen for years with a friend that has a now 14 year old and has collected -0- support or medical. The deadbeat parent lives right here in town, drives with no license and is a habitual DUI receiptiant.
That is a very sad fact of life not only for the parent who is trying to support a child alone but for the child also. And there are a lot more of this than people realize. Most people say well just make him pay child support..they just don't realize it's not quite that easy.
But on to the law I would revise:
I would revise the Child Abuse law..when a parent has abused their child and it is taken from the home, I think that parent should have to prove themself worthy of getting that child back. It should not be just a matter of handing the child back after 30 days or so, like they do now. That is for 1st offense only. If it happens again, they would lose all rights to the child. These laws should apply to foster parents as well and make mental abuse as big of a crime as physical abuse.
Repeal the Patriot Act, and No Child Left Behind..
I would change both thats been mentioned.
ontheoutside you are correct, they do stay in the system for years. My exhusband does pay his child support and so far always has. We have custody of my step children and their mother has paid only 5 times in over a year now. What I get for mine shouldn't have to cover hers too! I love my step children but it does make it very difficult. Shes also the daughter and relative of a very well known RICH family here in Bedford Co. If I were to post her name jaws would drop. When she had custody and just accused my husband of being 2 weeks late and they were all over him. I even found it on his credit report the other day. I'm disputing that right now! I faxed the 2 checks in question 3 times to DHS in Fayetteville. But that's our wonderful court system for ya!
I have to agree that No Child Left Behind does not work like it should. I see kids everyday being passed on that cannot read at the grade level they should or do basic math. As for child abuse laws, I have lots of opinions. I was a foster parent for over five years and I can tell you horror stories. Not only should parents and foster parents be held accountable, but case workers who do not do their job. The Brian A. law was supposed to help some of the situation but I really do not think it did. The only thing thaty seems to be consistant with the system is that want to put all the kids on some kind of meds. What child is not going to have problems being taken from the only home they know. We may know what they may have been living in is wrong but they know no different.
The Federal Reserve is an illegal entity NOT granted authority by none other than the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION...
But don't tell any U.S. citizens that a handful of wealthy bankers dictate the value of the world's most universally accepted currency, the dollar. And did you know the value of the dollar before the Federal Reserve was exactly $1, today it is worth .04, yup, that's FOUR cents...
Also, the IRS is not necessarily legal, as the Constitution does not mention a Federal income tax... Bet most people didn't care to know that either, huh...
I AGREE !!!! I think if you have abused your child you should not get the child back at all...Let me tell you why..When one of my twins were in the hospital alot from 6 months until about 3 1/2 because of grand mall seziures there was this little boy age 3 that had been beaten by his mother and he had a broken arm and a busted ear drum and he was in the hospital for about 10 days. They sent the mother to a class for 6 weeks and she got him back. Will within a month time I was back at the hospital for another 2 weeks with my son and that child was back in the hospital again. His mother had left him at home alone and he got into drain cleaner. He drank it and then thru it back up and when he did the acid from his stomach was with the drain cleaner and I can not find the words to tell you how bad he was, It had burned his face and one leg and both hands and a arm so very very bad..He had no lips. Most of his nose was gone. And inside of his mouth and throat was almost gone. Ok he was in the hospital for almost 3 months. The mother was given the child back. 6 months later the little boy died from a beating from his mother....
That is heart breaking.
Your story is heartbreaking. This woman (can't call her a mother) is why I believe in the death penalty. I pray she is, at the very least, in prison. I too saw horrible things while my son was in hospital for about 30 days. It is so very sad that the United States of America can fight wars for other countries but fail our own children so miserably. If this child you speak of were the only one that ever died, our system would still be pitiful and deeply flawed, but unfortunately there are hundreds if not thousands that die at the hands of the people that are supposed to protect them. Who would have ever thought a mother could kill her own baby? I just can't comprehend it.
My law changes are a bit lighter in nature and are all concerning traffic issues. Anyone caught driving in the left hand lane while the right lane is open should be heavily fined. Fines should be doubled if someone is behind them! Anyone who pulls out in front of another driver and then makes a left turn within a mile should be thrown in jail. Minimum of 30 days if this is a rural area and no one is behind the person he pulled out in front of.
Obviously I'm joking about the severity of these traffic offenses, but we should mandate that anyone applying for a driver's license be REQUIRED to watch a film on proper road etiquette. 99% of road rage incidents are caused by one of the above mentioned scenarios or by people getting cut off by drivers because they rely solely on their rearview mirror and don't turn their head to check blind spots.
I drive an average of 80 miles daily and dealing with idiots who have no idea how to drive probably contributes to the majority of my daily stress level. A little common sense would go a long way. If everyone is passing you in the right lane you probably should move over!
Great comments Mike Molder. I totally sympathize with your frustration. I drive Hwy 270 alot from Shelbyville to Chapel Hill. OMG....pulling out of one driveway at 10mph to go down 3 more and pull in another makes me a "classified psycho" on the highway. I would like to run over every 45mph sign on that road as well..LOL.
They should mandate that license plates have the phone number of car owner. That way you can call them later to voice your concerns.
That would probably be a bad idea. I would have to immediately go to church and ask forgiveness for what I'd have to say to them....;^)
