McGee's latest release date

Posted Thursday, June 12, 2008, at 4:03 PM

The release date for Edward McGee, charged with the murders of Phyllis Seibers and Deborah Ray, in December 1966 is now Feb. 12, 2009.

But McGee will likely be released late this year since he is getting 15 days reduction in his sentence each month for what is known as good time.

Gosh, I wish a better term than good time could be found for persons convicted for violent crimes.

McGee went to trial in Circuit Court here in October 1967 for the Seibers death and received a 99-year sentence.

He has never been to trial for the death of Deborah Ray. Some efforts by law enforcement officers are taking place in an effort to stop McGee's release.

As I understand it,he is,admittedly,mentally ill.

Wouldn't he be released into some sort of care facility rather than the general population?

The potential for liability lawsuits might prompt the authorities to grant him consideration people without a record as a violent offender don't always receive.

He could spend the rest of his days having his needs met and being prevented from causing harm to others as someone healthier and wilier takes his place in prison.

How old is this man now?

This is shameful this man should never be released into the general public .Mental Illness can not be an excuse for rape and murder.

He should rot in prison for what he did to those little girls. He has spent 41 years in prison for Killing and raping two innocent children. There was no reason, it was simply cold blooded murder.

Prison is the only life this man knows he was 19 years old when this crime happened, what makes anyone think he has been rehabilitated? Or the better question is What will he do in order to return to the only life he knows?

Would you want him living next door to your child or your grand child or your sister? I know I wouldn't.

Why did he never go to trail for Deborah Ray ?? That would put him around 60 years old I believe...I do not know what he will do for a living when he get's out...He has been in jail since the age of 19...My goodness what a terrible thing either way you look at it...He took the life of 2 girls for no reason and messed up his whole life too....I really believe he should stay behind bars until the end...we should all pray that he does no harm to anyone else once he get's out...
