Battle in Vol Family????

I had to laugh at a Nashville sports columnist referring to former Tennessee football coach Bill Battle as being a part of the Vol family this morning.

He listed Battle, Majors and Fulmer in that order.

Bill Battle played college football at Alabama under Coach Bear Bryant. He had about as good a chance of ever being a part of the Vol football family as that proverbial one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.

I read the same thing.You would think a writer for the state paper would know better. He might as well had added Doug Dickey who was a Fla. Gator

Doug handled it well during his tenure. Was Florida that big of a rivalry for the Vols then?

No but that helped start it. UT played Florida in the Gator Bowl and lost 14-13 in 1969. Dickey announced he was going to Florida a day or two later.
