Collins or Young in 2009?

Posted Monday, January 12, 2009, at 3:08 PM

What do you think the Tennessee Titans should do about their quarterback situation during the off-season?

I understand 36-year-old Kerry Collins would like to re-sign with the Titans if he gets a legitimate shot at the starting job. He's earned that shot. Who knows what Vince Young wants? I really don't think he's in position to make any demands.

It was obvious he wasn't ready even in the pre-season games of the 2008 season. Will he be ready in 2009 after being essentially inactive for the vast majority of the 2008 season?

How long should the team give him to produce? How long should the Titans wait before starting to look for a quarterback of the future?

cant believe no one has responded to this one.

must not be many sports fans on here.

i have found the whole collins-young saga to be fascinating. it was obvious that there were serious problems with the offense under young for the last two years. and this year's preseason looked grim when they couldnt manufacture a single touchdown, even when the titans 1st string played the other team's scrubs.

collins is pretty long in the tooth, but his savvy still outweighs his physical limitations.

eventually that balance will tip the other way.

of course the whole mental thing that preceeded the "injury" put a whole new face on the VY issue. we arent close enough to the situation to know everything that has gone on this year but, with the exception of one game, young has not seemed engaged at all with what was going on.

we can listen to what fisher has to say, altho we know he will only say whatever is the official party line, and the titans have real financial interest in not seeing young devalued on the market.

i did notice that the 1st time this year there was playing time behind collins, it was simms (supposedly #3) that got in. at lower levels of sports that is a coach's way of telling a player to; "pay attention to the game, and dont make me hunt for you"

in the indy game, young gave little indication he had gotten better. admittedly he was leading a second string lineup, but he was also facing a second string defense. sorgi managed to move the ball in the same situation.

at his last press conference of the year, fisher said collins would be starting for somebody next year, and added he would; "hope it is us".

i think that says it all.

he also said young would be the QB someday, but i think that remains to be seen.

young's issues are potentially as damaging to his career as pacman's were to his. he's gotten this far relying on athletic ability alone. mack brown has said as much. i'm sure you can think of as many examples as i can of people who werent able to adjust when athletic ability alone wouldnt do it anymore.

what will become of young is hard to say. but i expect to see collins starting for the titans next year. the team might have lost, but collins played at a very high level saturday, against one of the best defenses in the league.

I am a Vince Young fan, but I think he has some problems going on emotionally that affect his game. Kerry Collins did step in and do a great job! I think he has earned the starting position for next season. I wish we would have made it a little further in the playoffs, but when the visiting team seems to have brought their own referees what can you expect? I also hate to see Tony Dungee of the Colts retire, I like him even though I am not a Colts fan by any means. Guess he figures may as well since Manning coaches from the sideline and the field anyway. Oh well, I am done boo-hooing over this seaon. I am ready to cheer whoever the Ravens play AGAINST on to victory. Speaking of the Ravens, they have the most arrogant fans in the country, extremely rude! Next year, win or lose I will be there cheering on my Titans no matter who is at QB.

Its a touchy subject, because yes Collins has played fantastic this season, but how many more does he have. Young on the other hand seems to be an exceptional athlete, but will he ever get his head in the game.

The officials didn't beat the Titans. Three turnovers in the Red Zone beat them. The delay of game "no call" was terrible, but didn't cost the game. Collins should be brought back as starter for next season. Young will prove to be another NFL bust. Should of drafted Jay Cutler like most smart fans wanted!

Absolutely the officials didn't beat the Titans, but they certainly made calls on us that were questionable to me while letting the Ravens pretty much do whatever they pleased. I think there is no way they should have called Stewart for unnecessary roughness when he was trying to get them to not break Chris Johnson in half! Was that NECESSARY ROUGHNESS????

I'm of the opinion that Vince Young will no doubt someday be a fine quarterback in the NFL, regardless of who he is playing for. He has the talent, but not the maturity. Kerry Collins has both, and has proven himself to be the right candidate for the quarterback slot. He's as good or better than any quarterback playing the game.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth.
