Who would you like to see a street or road named in honor of in Shelbyville and Bedford County?

Whoever it is, make it so that the 911 and emergency dispatchers will know where it is.
Good point Jacks4me. I recall one night about 2 a.m. several years ago when an excited caller reported a home fire. Firemen and policemen frantically searched Bird and Birch streets. The fire was later found on Burt Street.

I agree with everyone! Even you greasemonkey! Several years ago I was taking care of my mother and had to call the EMS. We lived on Lower Halls Mill Road and I listened on the scanner as they went past the entrance on Warner Bridge down to Pass Road and doubled back up. When they had her loaded and ready for transport I told them to follow me I could get them there quicker. It's not one individuals fault, I've been here all my life and I couldn't tell you where 3/4 of the streets are. But Lower Halls Mill has been here forever.
When you do name streets and roads in Shelbyville and Bedford County after deserving individuals, please spell their names correctly! Coffee County seems to think this is not important. For instance: J.D. Neil Road has been spelled three different ways. Arnold Air Force Base has wrongly spelled a landmark creek that hundreds of people see each day. All they had to do was look on a USGS map and see that the creek was named Rollins Creek, not Roland Creek! Even the "Short Springs" nature area is mislabeled. Again, look at the USGS map and one can clearly see it is Short Spring (singular). Yes, it is a small thing to most; not to the family,however!
My,my; how times have changed since the 40's!
Back then we'd recite a little ditty that went "Fools names like fools faces, always seen in public places" I'd be tempted to remove that sign if I ever saw a street named "Brown Biscuit". :-)
Seriously though there are a lot of Locals who could be honored by nameing a NEW street or road after them. Just don't rename streets or roads, creates too much confusion for the emergency response personnel and also obsoletes all maps of the affected road.
