Pro Athete Salaries

Posted Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 2:07 PM

What do you think would be a fair and rewarding annual salary for top professional athletes in football, baseball and basketball.

Take into account top pro athletes can also make a huge amount in advertising endorsements as an added reward for a great season or seasons and, most important of all, for a clean personal image.

The median income is roughly $50,000. I have nothing against athlete's making a decent income say $200,000, but the millions they make is way too much. We are paying them way to much for the hours they actually work compared to most working folks in this country.

Three key words pop up everytime this argument is made -- fair market value. Every sports' athletes want a certain percentage of all revenue. They see themselves as the product rather than the sport itself. In some cases that may be true. I just hope when those athletes reach the six and seven figure level, they give back to those who helped get them there -- school teachers, minor league coaches, family, etc. You don't just pop out of your mother and land on the 50-yard line at LP Field.

I think they are way over rated and way over paid. Of course after I saw what some of the Wall Street Exes make ..maybe they are unpaid at least the sports figures entertain us instead of rob us.

I believe it has become all about the money instead of the sport. Its a shame. They should do it for the love of the game and get paid a decent wage, not millions and millions. Thats ridiculous!
