Should football fans be disgusted, accept the fact game officials can't see everything or assume the talent pool isn't great for college and pro football officials at this point in time?
I'm been surprised at the number of obvious calls missed by officials this season. Has it been my imagination or has it grown even worse during the college bowl games and the early games of the NFL playoffs? Many have been game-changing oversights by officials. Do you think the officiating has been that poor or is it a matter of television replays showing us so many views from different angles the officiating crew can't be expected to see? I can remember Bill Pack saying one time that he had never made a mistake in officiating (I do not have enough fingers and toes to count all of the bad ones I thought he made), and I guess that is the kind of mindset you have to have in order to be a fair and balanced official.
I agree with you that it seems to me that there have been a lot of obvious bad calls and no calls. A lot of the time I just discount it because it does not favor the team I am pulling for. I also believe that replay technology has us expecting a higher level of officiating.

Are you limiting this to just football & only college & pro games?
Though I'm not one who would claim to know a great deal about officiating in any sport, I would have to agree the amount of obvious mistakes made over the past couple of seasons has increased. With the ever advancing technology involved in instant replay and the various angles of view offered, it's quite possible that officials have become intimidated by the technology to the point they question their own ability to make the call versus what the camera records.
