Too Many Wars?

Posted Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 2:06 PM

Are you tired of the United States almost constantly being involved in war or wars all over the world supposedly to help the people of various nations have a better life?

Out nation has been at war somewhere for most of my life. And it seems recently the more we send our people to fight for the freedom of others we see our own freedom and wellbeing on the decline.

Many will point out it is better to fight those wars elsewhere than on our home soil and that was certainly true in World War II, but how mnay of these most recent wars will really change anything for the better in the long run?

Have we made more friends than enemies in recent years?

Who is reaping the benefits of our government sending our young men and women to fight and die?

I know there will most likely be some comments opposite of mine, but here's my two cents.

I agree that there have been WAY TOO many wars. Most of the wars/battles that the US has been in for the last few years have been uncalled for. Our military has spent many years fighting on foreign soil, fighting for other countries for what? What is the purpose? I personally do not know and do not understand why the US feels that it is our job to go around and stick our nose into every single battle that is occurring. There is a difference of sending our troops over to "help". But we don't just help other countries fight for their freedom, we end up domineering the war ; becoming the controlling party of the war, instead of "help".

The US needs to stand back and sit a few of these battles out and let the countries handle their own problems for a while.

Some may say that our military who are risking their lives everyday, are helping us stay free. But are we really "free" and if we don't get involved in a war that has nothing to do us, will it really cost us our freedom? I am not bashing our military at all, I support every soldier and thank them all, present and past, for the job they have done. But I believe that if we, the US, didn't get involved in so much of the fighting going on, many of our dedicated soldiers would still be around.

AMEN!!!! We should let those countries solve their own problems. Maybe some foreign country could come here and help us solve our problems by guarding the U.S./Mexican border....yeah, that will happen.

Agree with PrpleHze... and for all the talk about budget cuts nobody wants to really roll back the rapid expansion of military dollars. Our soldiers should get paid top dollar for laying their lives on the line, instead, we outsource so many things to private contractors, which in the end comes back to multi-billion dollar American companies.

I wasn't alive when he was president, but what he says was prophetic in nature.

"We will bankrupt ourselves in the vain search for absolute security." - Dwight D. Eisenhower

Thanks fro the quote Darrick. I WAS alive and I don't recall it, but I was a bit young at the time. It is quite insightful.

In today's information age, you would think we would know all the reasons for military action, but I fear we are still missing a lot.

I am a bit surprised at our restraint in Libya. While I am no fan of the ruling government and I certainly would like to see atrocities stopped, we carry way too much of the load and get way too little appreciation. (At least publicly)

We have become unpaid mercenaries that fight other countries wars...with nothing to show for it but the tombstones of our brightest...

This country has been imploding for many many years...

God help us.

Too many wars? Yes! The three we are currently mired in should not be! 1.) Obama ran his campaign saying he would get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Three years and it still hasn't happened. 2.) He recived a nobel peace prize and then starts us into another war in Libya.

To make matters worse, it is now coming out that the people we helped in Egypt and Libya are Islamic terrorist, the people who want to see us dead!

Our country is probably already sunk because of the debt. Even at only 4%, the interest on the 14 trillion dollars debt is over $400 Billion a year.

2009 defense spending was a total of $514 billion. Our spending is our most costly war and so far we are losing badly. The latest speech from our President about reducing the deficit(not the debt), puts me in mind of someone taking a dump in your dinner plate and promising to dip it out with a toothpick. Better get some shovels because we have a very deep hole to fill.

AMEN PrpleHze and darrick. Just think of the countless lives lost because, for some reason, our government thinks that getting involved in other countries business and governments, is what the people of this country wants. I guess because they have that power, they think this makes them Gods and forget about the consequences this brings on the people of our nation. Families are separated, torn apart, loved ones lost because our government won't stay out of others government affairs. I wonder how many of the countries we are involved in now would really stand up for us? They want our military help, our technology, and our dollars, but would they stand by the U.S. if the situations were reversed? I dare say "No". Wars have been going on in the Middle East since the beginning of recorded history. Just read the Bible. And our government thinks they can change the mind-set of those countries?? Do we really have "leaders" or just power seekers?

Why can't the countries of this world leave each other alone to live as they please and not inflict their beliefs and their wars upon other countries? It is as if they thrive on wars and brutality.

No one is going to agree with me, but I don't care.

First we need to bring all our troops back to the United States. That would eliminate combat pay at least. Some would be sent home. The rest who must remain in service could protect our borders, both north and south on their same pay.

This would allow us to eliminate the need for the useless Homeland Security Agency. Put that money saved on the deficit.

Why do we need a Homeland Security Agency when we still have the FBI and CIA Secret Service? Let's shut down the government agencies we don't really need.

My way of thinking is this: The secretary of Homeland Security spoke this week saying the colorful alert warnings were going to be replaced by two warnings; High and no alert. If it was a High Alert - people would be told it was high and where to go to find out what they should do.

There was a High Alert for Easter Sunday spoken of but I haven't heard of any place I could get any information about it. Who needs that kind of Homeland Security.

Also Homeland Security said our Borders are secured by 15 Border Patrol Agents for every one mile of the border or 1 ever 350 feet when nothing is happening on the border from Brownsville to San Diego.

Why are there shooting and kidnappings for sex slaves on the border then?

The National News spoke of our Government behind gun running into Mexico this week. Border Patrol didn't see that?

We are paying the Border Patrol and the Servicemen. Why not eliminate the Border Patrol and use the already paid Servicemen and use the Border Patrol pay on the Deficit?

If we bring the troops back to the states, they can re-open the military bases that were shut down and renovated with billions of taxpayers dollars readying them for relocation centers. Or they could stop sinking money into these bases and put the money on the deficit.

Airport Security or TSA (Transportation Security Administration) and why are they only picking on little children and not Terrorists. Who gets these jobs and how strict is job screening? Anyone can apply for a job with them.

As far as going into countries like Libya, we don't need to. Those countries don't like us to begin with. That is why there is a United Nations. They also came up with NATO (No Action Talk Only) who basically does the fighting for the UN.

They also have the European Union Army to deal with those countries. We have no need to be over there unless one of the countries come against us.

Now let me talk about Libya!

What the hell are we doing over there? Obama got us involved with the UN then has to back the NATO or even operate it. We are only suppose to be a member. We are paying way too much money to the NATO forces who are NOT doing what they have been paid to do.

We find out today that Libya is going to let the Tribal Warriors fight the rebels. Where the hell did they come from? Who are they and what weapons do they have. Are they civilians or natives of the jungles?

Looks like the Muslim Brotherhood is taking charge in Libya also now.

Well, What will NATO ever do about this? They couldn't even keep the Armies away from the towns let along stop them from killing more civilians than were killed before we entered the war.

Since we started it, we should go in and finish it in days not months or come on back home with our tail between our legs again.

And speaking of useless organizations, Congress needs to be replaced along with Obama in 2012.

People are mesmerized by Donald Trump. He is the kind of president we need, but in the 11th hour, people will come to their senses and not vote for Trump. The only thing is, they won't know who to vote for because they were concentrating on trump, so at the last minute they will pull OBAMA.

And even if they don't, rumor has been spoken of voter fraud this past month. Remember I predicted that no mater who you voted for, Obama will be the next and Last USA President.

-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Sun, Apr 24, 2011, at 5:00 PM

Unique-Lies, I agree with you.

The troops should be brought home. But our US government will not agree. They enjoy sending our men and women to die for useless reasons.

I agree we need a new Congress. And I believe that Congress needs a HUGE pay-cut. They make over $200k a year. Knock it down by $100k, use the the left over money to add to help pay the deficit. There is so much useless spending going on in the government. It's like you know you don't have the money to your rent, but you're going out on a vacation with money you borrowed from a friend to pay your rent. Then when rent is due, you borrow more money from someone else. And instead of paying the rent you treat yourself to a spa day or something. The bill never gets paid. Soon, there will be no one left to borrow from and the card house collapses. I also believe they need to kick every single illegal off of government assistance. That would save another HUGE amount of money. Also start deporting them instead of us holding them. That would free up jobs for the American people which would help the economy because there would be more people pumping money into it.

As for Border Patrol, they are a joke. So is the military who are positioned on the border. Because the military personnel are NOT allowed to capture, touch or do anything when they see a terrorist coming across the border. All they can do is tell the Border Patrol agents via radio and let them know where the group is. It's a waste of money. Why not let the military personnel protect our borders like they should be - lock and load. It would be one way to keep the people out. The bleeding hearts wouldn't like it, but those who oppose can live down there by the border and experience what some of those people have experienced, such as their homes being broken in, being raped, killed, cars stolen, property damaged, etc.

As for voting, I think Donald Trump would be an interesting choice. Would I vote for him? Probably not, depending on the other runners. But we do need someone who knows business and can take charge. We do not need another politician, we have plenty of them.

-- Posted by PrpleHze on Mon, Apr 25, 2011, at 8:08 AM

The Mexican drug Cartel is in over 200 cities in the south western United States.

Does that sound like Homeland Security has the borders safe? Just Unique Lies.

No one needs worry about Trump being our next president. Or at least, not for long.

You see, President Lincoln printed up some "greenback Dollars to help win the civil war. He was Assassinated.

John F Kennedy printed up silver certificates and minted the Kennedy silver half dollar. He was assassinated before the coins could be distributed. Vise President LB Johnson became the new president and ordered the silver certificates called in and the minted silver coins melted down (before Kennedy was put in the ground).

Sound fishy? Well, all I will say is Johnson ordered the silver out of the US coins to make them lighter and passed the coinage act in 1965. You can Goggle that.

The only two Presidents that got assassinated was Lincoln and Kennedy. They messed with the money market.

Donald Trump should know about this, but doesn't seem to think they would Assassinate him if he pulled us out of this bad economy by creating jobs and money for the poor.

Trump wouldn't live to see his second year in office if he messed with the plans of the World Bank and the One World Order.

I would hate to see Donald Trump sacrificed to prove to Americans the President can't do anything on his own. He is just a puppet!

I remain convinced that the only reason we are constantly at war is to help keep our economy growing. If we withdrew all the soldiers from every foreign country, including those which we just have bases or embassies, that would mean several million people would be graciously welcomed home, but with no jobs available.

With the military-industrial complex always negotiating contracts for large jets, weaponry, uniforms, etc. it is about fueling the economy. If you don't believe any of this is true, then look at the numbers. Over 1/5 of the entire (annual) fiscal U.S. budget is dedicated to defense. We spend more on our military and/or defense, than the other 194 countries combined. What a shame!

In 2010, alone, we spent $689 BILLION fighting wars, paying soldiers, taking care of veterans, etc.... some of those are worthy investments, however, the wars we are engaged in, are not. The interest on debt incurred in past wars, totals over $500 billion.

We can't look at a $1.5 trillion annual deficit and expect to magically cut all taxes (which decreases revenue) and social programs alone... Anybody who is serious about cutting spending can not ignore a $700 billion dollar a year discretionary spending account known as defense. Why can't we ask the military to reduce spending? Why must be engage in battle and lose lives, for causes anyone of a sound mind, realize are not worth the sacrifice...either in dollars or lives! All this talk about getting rid of government jobs, and the ignorance (or stupidity) of not understanding that a soldier is a government "employee". Our taxes pay them, just as our taxes pay all other government employees.

The truth is, again, that if we were not spread out policing the world, there would be that many more citizens to add to the unemployment lines. Not only that, but multi-billion dollar industries would crumble. That is why the New World Order ensures there will always be "wars and rumors of wars"...

Your right, however we leave troops in countries as bases we can use in case of foreign wars. These troops would get a paycheck, but not combat pay.

We seemed to have been able to support the National Guards in our states to use for local disasters. Returning guardsmen could continue in the NG at National Guard pay, reducing outlay in costs, yet ready for local disasters that FEMA can't seem to handle correctly.

Returning Troops on active duty could not only patrol our borders but intervene in the drug war in Mexico.

You have to keep in mind that the largest military expense is the actual fighting, eating, and supplying the troops. That means ammunition of all sizes shapes and designs including Aircraft which we also seem to manage to destroy during the course of a war. That is where the big money goes. The New HIGH TECH Bombs and War Equipment is the biggest expense.

WE drop expensive Bombs all day and night long with very little damage to the countries. Yet a terrorists can bomb one building and it puts the country in a panic and stirs up hundreds of conspiracy theories.

Our troops on active duty are receiving a pay check no matter where they are. They could do much more good protecting our borders back here at home PLUS they would be spending their paychecks on our economy, not on some other thriving country.

If the Government had not spent so much money bailing out the banks that didn't help the homeowners nor small business owners, our money would still be worth a little more and our economy wouldn't be hurting this bad. Our Government leaders have done this to our economy and the !@#$%^&* knew it while they were doing it to us.

Their answer is to raise the spending ceiling in the very near future. That will allow them to rob Peter to pay Paul. This will also not only put us further in debt but lower the value of the dollar again.

By the time they realize they can pay some on the deficit, our money won't be worth enough to bother paying on it.

The World Bank is behind it all. They make money when we are at war and demand that we stay in the war so they can continue to earn money from the war at the cost of the lives of our troops.

We should send the troops home and send the bankers and politicians over to fight the wars. That would end the wars.

You put the paychecks of the troops back in our economy it will create jobs to fill the needs of the people which would create more products and jobs.

Cutting taxes on the rich has never produced more jobs. It has produced more Corporate Jets and Oversea Vacations and bonus for the CEOs. Then they folding after they were bailed out because they didn't use the money to produce jobs or save homes.

I still can not for the life of me understand how the value of Homes decreased when the value of everything else sky rocketed.

That was a criminal move as far as I am concerned and who ever done it should be thrown in prison.

Now a poor person can't even sell his home to get the money to feed his family or move on. I think the Bankers knew the people would have to sell their homes just to survive with the economy going to hell, so they had to cut the value of the homes so it didn't crash all the Banks.

That makes it a rich mans dream come true. They can buy these homes for less than half price and hold them until the economy comes back.

I pray that is what the rich people do because the economy will never recover from this recession, making the rich POOR also!

Interesting quote darrick, I Googled the quote and saw a few more by Eisenhower that were very interesting. Here are just two of them:

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

Dwight D. Eisenhower

"A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both."

I don't agree with our nation sacrificing our finest young men and women in our effort to police the world. Along with cutting military spending, entitlement spending will absolutely have to be cut. I wouldn't dare suggest cutting programs that benefit the elderly and disabled, but we can no longer afford to give taxpayer funded handouts to deadbeats that have done nothing to earn them.

Auditors recently disclosed that there were more than 73 billion dollars in fraudulent medicare claims paid out last fiscal year. Why then are some politicians in congress complaining about cutting 6 billion dollars in medicare spending?

I beg to differ, but Ronald Reagan proved that when taxes are cut, revenue is raised. People have more money to spend and companies have more money to invest, expand and hire new employees. With unemployment numbers still near the 9% mark, the absolute last thing we need to do is raise taxes on the very companies that we hope are going to provide jobs. It just does not make sense to continue to punish success and reward failure.

-- Posted by Tim Lokey on Fri, Apr 29, 2011, at 12:58 AM

The rich say they don't need the cuts they are already getting. They are not and have not been employing anyone.

If the rich, with their tax cuts, have invested and employed people, why is the unemployment still hanging in around 9%? All the rich have been getting tax cut and Big Corporations don't pay taxes yet the unemployment rate goes up and the economy goes down.

Did all the rich stop investing when Obama became the King of America?

If one really looked he would find all kinds of scams and fraudulent deals the Government Servants and employees committed. Right after Congress cut programs to fund the rest of the year, they found that they had over paid the United Nations. They also found other fraudulent payment transactions that would have more than covered the rest of the year without cutting anything.

I once talked to a man who done his best to get the gov to stop sending him disability checks for an injury that had healed up. The government agency would not stop sending him checks. Just like the food stamp agencies that issued food stamps out in Florida to prostitutes who would drive up in Cadillacs with their pimps. Yet would not give others food stamps because they could sale their ford or Chevy to buy food.

The right thing to do is make the Big Corporations pay their fair share of taxes along with the rich. They were giving the privilege of do business as an artificial entity, just like the small businesses.

The taxpayers are paying the taxes for the Big Corporations AND for the Rich.

The 16th Amendment says "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived..." Big Corporations and Oil Companies earn 4, 5, 6 Bilion dollars in "Profits" (or Income) that they are not paying taxes on. You the taxpayer has to pay that tax for them ...

Yet you Taxpayers scream because you think you have to pay for the poor peoples benefits which is LESS that One Big Corporations Tax Exemption!

If you are not paying the tax for the rich and the Big Corporations, then you are not paying the poor man's taxes either. Wake up!

Income tax is a Indirect Tax on the Benefit or Privilege of doing business in the United States of America. It is an excise tax on the exercise of a benefit or privilege. We the people have a right to work and do not earn an income. We the People are compensated for our labor, no profit or income is earned. So why would you pay the taxes for these Big Corporations?

It is time for the Rich and the Big Corporations to start paying their fair share.

The Indirect Tax must be uniform through out the states. How does your taxes become uniform with the "No Taxes" of the Big Corporations? Or Uniform with the no taxes of the poor?

Raising taxes isn't what we need because they will only raise the taxes on the middle class. Congress has to plug up the loop holes for Big Corporations and States need to stop sucking up to Big Corporations.

Look what happened to all the Big Corporations Shelbyville brought in and went broke on just to have them move out of the country leaving Bedford with the bills.

Of course, as usual, that is up to everyone of you.

Okay, so King Obama stated that Spending is Up and so is Income.

My spending is up because I have to pay more for everything.

Income up? I don't think so, at least not mine. I don't earn an income. You have to have a business or Big Corporation like the Oil Industry to earn an Income.

Income is Profit or Gain. How many of you get a profit or gain on your weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly or yearly paycheck? Does your boss give you a little profit on the side for working for him/her? I don't think so. You only receive what you agreed to work for. No profit or gain (referred to as Income).

Big Corporations including the Oil Companies get BIG Incomes ($6 Billion or more) and they don't have to pay any taxes on that money. Uncle Obama expects YOU to pay their taxes on that Income they just got and the many more they will continue to get.

And you were getting tired of paying for the poor people. GOLLY, SHUSHAM, SURPRISE, SURPRISE.

Afghanistan was the right war we went there to get Osama and we got him time to leave.

Iraq was the wrong war a lie by Geo.Bush time to leave there.

Libya is Clinton's war she wanted and Obama went along with it.

We have not started to pay for these war's let alone any thing else.

Obama lied and if Clinton had won it still be the same the president does not control war the congress does they hafe to shout of the money and thats not going to happen.
