Dumbest Crime?

Posted Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at 2:40 PM

We've had more than out share of dumb crimes committed in Shelbyville and Bedford County over the years.

What is the dumbest crime you've ever about taking place here?

Two near the top of my list would be people who had too much to drink before committing the crime.

There was the man who usede a very taller ladder to climb up on the old Dixie Home Foods building and than break through the roof. The problem started almost immediately. He pushed the ladder over so police wouldn't spot it nnd become suspicious. Sure enough, they became suspicious shortly after daylight the next morning when the man, a known burglar, was spotted sitting on the roof and cursing loudly.

Then there was the safe cracker who lost his billfold and it was found a few feet from the damaged safe.

I don't know about here locally, but I read on a Nashville news station website yesterday that a woman illegally purchased prescription pills. When she got home, she realized the pills weren't what she paid for, so she called the police and wanted to press charges on the person who sold her the wrong pills. I think that's pretty dumb.

Bo, I'd have to agree with the selection of the "Assault with Cheetos" story. The silliest alleged "crime" in recent memory.

Wasnt there a guy that was shot in the buttocks trying to climb out of a bank window? May be forklore but I think I remember he was climbing out of the old Bedford County Bank on the square.

If memory serves me correct I think you have your story crossed on the buttocks shooting.I remember an employee of that bank that was caught at a motel or home with someone else's wife and was given a reminder that she was married with some lead in the butt.

Maybe so taxes, and that may be funnier than my story? I was young and imaginations do roam.

When I worked as a correctional officer, there was a man who was in there because he called the police because he got robbed of his drugs, money, and car during a drug sale. The police showed up and took the report. After stopping the thief in the car, the thief admitted that the car and drugs were not his and that he stole them. So, they were both arrested and charged.

Two teen agers tried to steel a car, but they were arrested because they could not drive away. Neither knew how to drive a car with a straight stick transmission.

I don't know if it is a "dumb crime" but it is criminal that you haven't written a new blog in many weeks!
