WaitingPosted Friday, August 3, 2007, at 10:24 AM
Four to six weeks was usually the wait, but it always seemed longer than that. Waiting for the mailman to come during the summer months ... unable to contain your excitement of something new to own.
Today, modern technology has taken all of the fun out of it.
Instead of hoping and guessing, we now have package tracking with the major delivery services. Just type in the number on their website, and they'll show exactly where it is. But it also has its drawbacks.
Since last week, I've been waiting for my collection of classic spinach-induced violence. Yeah, yeah ... it's a cartoon box set, but I yam what I yam.
I asked for two-day delivery, yet as the week progressed, the shipment moved further and further away. It shipped on Monday from Campbellsville, KY and was estimated to arrive Wednesday. But then the sucker rested in Franklin, IL for two days until it was marked "in transit" and then ended up in Wilmington-Clinton Field, OH at 2:43 am this morning.
It has now been placed in the hands of the delivery courier and should be waiting for me when I get home.
But even knowing where it was sort of takes all the fun out of it.
