On another site where I saw the UFO clip, someone from ILM [Industrial Light and Magic] pointed out the methods and software that could be used to produce the effects. It's amazing what some folks with a little time and imagination can do. I'm a big fan of Internet fan films and these links will show you what can be done.

the UFO one is my favorite one not sure if it's real or fake but if it is fake they did a darn good job!
