About a year ago, a group of us were running around the Chattanooga area goofing off, when a friend suggested a visit to a flying saucer.
What? "Sure, it's on Signal Mountain..." So we drove up there and sure enough, there it was. Well, now it's for sale.
This is an opportunity to own a unique property and is ideal for that weekend get away. It has app. 2,000 square feet of living space. Home has 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, kitchen, living room and large bar area. There is a poster of an alien at the bar that reads "I AM ONLY HERE FOR THE BEER". This is truly the most unique property we have ever sold! If you are into Unique Homes, Space Ships, Flying Saucers, Star Trek, A Mountain Get Away Home, or Investment Properties, this is your opportunity. This property has never been offered at Auction before. There are pictures at the above link, just scroll down to Sale #2. I may have to forget about that Chevelle I wanted. I was surprised it sold for so low.
Did any of you go to the auction? I wanted to go just so I could see the inside of the house.
Here's the update from AP about the sale:
Falling home prices may be intergalatic: Tenn. flying-saucer house sells for just $135K

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- The sale price for a Chattanooga, Tenn., house shaped like a flying saucer is nothing to phone home about.
The Space House sold at auction Saturday for a down-to-earth bid of $135,000. Auctioneer Terry Posey says he's surprised bidding didn't go higher. The sale of the 38-year-old, three-bedroom structure perched on six "landing gear" legs attracted worldwide attention.
Posey says Pearl Johnson of Cincinnati bought the mountainside house but didn't want to discuss the transaction.
The house has a retractable staircase that lowers to the ground. A neighbor says that feature came in handy for one former owner who was having an argument with her husband. She pulled up the stairway, drove her husband's truck underneath it so he couldn't get the stairs down and left him stuck inside.
The outside is cool but the inside needs some work . . . I think living there would get old after a while though. I remember seeing it a lot when we would go to Chattanooga as a kid and thought it was the coolest thing ever!
Wow! One word!
It's unique I suppose but I wouldn't buy it.
That really is one of the neatest houses I've ever seen. I have no idea what it'll go for, but last year it was on the market for $180,000. Seeing as how it's on Signal Mountain, I couldn't believe it was priced that low. Plus it's been mentioned on Coast to Coast, which has millions of listeners, and linked to on their web-site.
Cool. Is the one picture the control panel for liftoff?
I'll have to warn my realtor that this is NOT what I mean when I ask for "universal design."
It's a great looking house,though.
A person could live there or just rent it out for all the sf conventions.
I like the one above it too but gesh 5600 sq foot of living space.
I'd need 2 maids for that one :>)
I remember seeing that house when my husband and I went to Chattanooga. We both thought it was really cool. I would think that it will go for a fairly high price, and then the new owners could have it featured in Dwell (dwell.com).
Hey...That's really cool!! I'd love to have it too!!
That house is awesome!
If I was in the market for a new one I would take a chance at it!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful inventive home with us.
