Oh deer...

Posted Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 4:26 PM

Everyone needs to keep a sharp eye out while driving over the next few months.

While on the way into work this morning, I encountered a group of young deer sprinting across the road at the golf course on Highway 130.

A group of the beasts ran in front of me as I came to a stop. I came very close to running into two of them.

But I could do nothing about the one that threw itself full force into my driver's side back door.

John Doe got up and ran off.

A woman that was traveling in the opposite direction had stopped as well to avoid the creatures and asked if I was alright. I was fine, but quite peeved at the fresh damage, visits to the body shops for estimates and the trip to my insurance company I must make.

According to the Pittsburg Kansas Morning Star, "the high season for car crashes with deer runs from October through December. Every year, those wrecks account for more than 150 human and nearly 1.5 million deer fatalities. "

I was lucky and so was Bambi.

But everyone needs to be aware of what may be lurking on the side of the road. Let's be careful out there.

You're very lucky you weren't injured. Deer can cause massive damage to a vehicle. My sister managed to hit 2 of them last year, within the same week.

You are lucky you weren't hurt.

I have thought about buying one of those deer repellers that fits in the grill of the car. I wonder if those work?

I have had a lot of people tell me the pest repellers work great.

I have sold deer repellers for about 10 yrs. and never had a single complaint. They must work very well.
