Muzak.... when is enough, enough?

Posted Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at 2:31 PM

The other day, I was having a quick lunch a local restaurant, when unfortunately, I began to notice the background music, which typically consists of either jazzed up or orchestral versions of classic rock tunes.

Normally, I try to tune this out, seeing how annoying some of this stuff can be for an old rock and roll fan.

But this was just too much.

Someone had actually recorded a Muzak version (also known to many as elevator music) of the Scorpions' 1990 hit "Winds of Change."

Which leads me to ask: What is the worse version of a rock tune that you have heard that has been mangled by these "artists?"

Which songs and artists should never touched by these useless hacks?

And how do I scrub that awful version of the Scorpions tune out of my brain?

I know you're asking about unintentionally-bad cross-genre cover versions, but I love some of the times where artists have crossed genre for comedy purposes -- like Weird Al's polka medleys of famous rock songs. I think one of the funniest -- and most unexpected -- of these tongue-in-cheek versions was Alanis Morissette's cover of the Black-Eyed Peas' "My Humps," which Alanis took slow and melodic, to hilarious effect.

he he he that is funny!! I heard a Muzak version of Metallica's One and Ride the Lightning once.

I was shocked. It was sooooooo funny.

How you get it out of your head is easy, Elvis' Blue Christmas will be playing somewhere to torment you to death.( Or Chipmonks christmas)

You'll beg for the muzak back.

Everytime I hear muzak, I think of the Weird Al song and it gets stuck in my head.
