Getting some shade or a Jeff Gordon fan?
Wild animals are very busy!
Most of our songbirds have weaned or are weaning their first clutch of baby birds. Some have even started building their second nests. Our larger birds of prey are finished with egg laying for this year. The smaller birds like Screech Owls and Kestrels will have one more clutch this year.
Rabbit are doing what they do best - procreating! They will continue until late summer. Squirrels are finished with babies until the fall. Raccoons are giving birth now. Typically they will only have one litter per season. Groundhogs will have 1-2 litters this year. And our opossum friends have babies old enough to be outside the pouch. We can look for one more opossum litter this summer.
Turtles will now be on the move as they seek mates and find places to lay eggs. Watch for them on the roads. If you are like me and stop to get them out of the road - be sure to place them on the side of the road they are heading for. Otherwise, they will simply turn around and get on the road again.
