How You Can Help the HorsesPosted Thursday, August 9, 2007, at 11:00 AM
Earlier this week, 16 horses were removed from a farm in Lewisburg, Tennessee, because of starvation. The owner is "supposedly" out of town and hasn't been reached as of yet. The horses have been taken in by Volunteer Equine Advocates out of Gallatin, Tennessee. They need help to care for these animals. Because of the extreme drought and heat of the summer, they are running low on hay and feed for these horses. They are asking for help. I thought that since the city Shelbyville and Bedford County depends on horses for much of its economic development, we can help. If you have extra hay and feed that you would like to donate, or if you would just like to make a monetary donation, please visit their website or contact them at:

Cheryl,
Thanks for passing along this info! They also have a wishlist on the website of horse stuff they need at VEA if anyone would like to donate an extra muck rake or something they may have extra laying around the barn.

Walking Horse Trainers' Association has some hay and grain that they want to donate. René Capley's been taking to WHTA; she called me just now wanting to know who to get in touch with and I gave her the telephone number from your post.
