Bedford County Animal Control: At Risk Dogs

Posted Thursday, December 20, 2007, at 10:00 AM

These wonderful dogs have been at Bedford County Animal Control for quite a while and are running out of time. Won't you make one of these cuties' Christmas holiday?

My name is Poncho. I am a Boxer mix. I am such a well behaved boy! I know how to sit, stay, and shake. You can see in one of my pictures I am trying to shake hands with the animal control officer! I am a big sweetie. Since I am a bigger dog, I need lots of room to run (safely) to let out my energy. Please help.. Dogs at the shelter do not have long.

My name is Grace. I am a German Shepherd mix. I was a little nervous about having my picture taken. I am such a sweet girl! I love to give kisses. I need a forever home real soon please!

Hi! My name is Millie. I am a Labrador Retriever mix. I love reindeer games! Come and see me and give me a forever home for Christmas.

I'm Izzy. I am a Terrier/Dalmation mix. I am a unique little girl who needs a forever family soon.

All of these lovely dogs are running out of time. Won't you please help?

Our adoption process is very easy!! The fee for adopting an animal is $65 that includes a $50 refund after the animal is spayed or neutered. Our facility contains an Adoption Room that will allow you and your family to spend quality time to ensure the right pet for you! All animals must leave with a current Rabies Vaccination. The current cost for this is $13.

Come Visit Us!

The shelter is now staffed during the day for viewing of animals and for dropping off animals. Give us a call to schedule a time to come in.

Thank you to all who inquired about Grace. She went to a good home yesterday. Poncho, Millie and Izzy are still in need of homes. We would also like to thank you for your continued support of our shelter.

I know that getting pets adopted is a huge responsibility and it's something that has to be done. I think the attitude of the gentlemen that runs the shelter has a lot to do with the over whelming amount of animals there. I went to adopt a dog some months back and the attitude the gentleman had was like I was bothering him or he just didn't have the time to mess with me. Instead of letting me see what was available to adopt, he wanted to bring out every dog individually and have me say yes or no. I really didn't want to visit with all of them. After about 3 dogs, I decided I was the one being bothered

its always something -

I haven't dealt with the man at animal control, but I've met Brenda (who posted above) many times and she is so sweet and caring. It is easy to see that she loves the animals that come in and she wants to find them a home before they are put down. I would think that working at animal control is not an easy job, especially considering that the animals' lives are literally in your hands, perhaps the man at the shelter only wanted to save a dog's life and that's why he seemed hurried?

My daughter and I volunteer at the shelter your speaking of. I can say that everyone at the sheler has always been been very good with customers when we were their. BCAC needs more volunteers by the way. All you have to do is go to the office. They only bring one animal in the adoption room at a time, you wouldn't want a dog fight, or cats everywhere in the room. It is mostly for your protection. If you were not happy before go back and see Brenda, She Really LOVES the ANIMALS!
