Does Everyone Have Their IDs?Posted Friday, February 1, 2008, at 1:42 PM
My previous blog post brings up an interesting topic.
Pet IDs Many owners are never reunited with their beloved pet, simply because of lack of identification. Even indoor pets need ID tags. Check this out from TheDogDaily.com: Here are some tips to consider from the ASPCA, even if your pet is microchipped: Please always make sure your pet has a collar with its ID. Make your ending a happy one. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Collars and harnesses can come off.
Not all places that are supposed to check for chips and tattos actually do.
We need to find some other means that is a little more secure so all pets can be identified and a lost, deceased,"arrested" animal is dealt with the same as a human in the same situation.
The families of missing pets go through a hell of not knowing what became of their loved one and people who have been victims of at-large animals don't always know what humans are supposed to be responsible for that beast.
Pets should be treated like any other being that we force into permanent childhood and dependency.
If they can't survive in our world without our love and support,we have to be responsible enough to provide the best care currently available and improve all we can.
The RFID chips aren't a good idea either if you love your pet. These have been known to induce malignant tumors around the chip.

Yes I am a bit concerned about putting a chip in my animals. Our dog has a leather collar with our name address and phone number but our cat wouldn't stop messing with his. Now I wish I would have made him wear it.
Before we neutered our dog he got out and a nice man called to tell us our dog was at a store several miles from our house. Thank goodness he had his tag on or he may have disappeared for good that day chasing that female dog!
