Oprah Show Features An Inside Look At Puppy MillsPosted Friday, April 4, 2008, at 8:22 AM
Today the Oprah Winfrey Show will take an inside look at the operations and living conditions of puppy mills. Oprah is dedicating the show to her dog, Sophie, who recently passed away. She will also promote adopting pets from shelters. I sure wish that I could be home to see this today. Anyone who has the opportunity should give it a watch. Puppy mill puppies and breeder dogs are raised and kept in horrid conditions. I'm just glad that Oprah is raising awareness on this topic.

I also appreciate these types of shows and like the fact that most daytime shows have become kinder, gentler and more positive that the Jerry Springer type shows of the past.
I don't watch any of them much, but if I am passing the TV, some will catch my attention.
I'm planning on taping it, so I can make Jeremy watch it with me. I don't know that we'll be able to watch the whole thing as it might be too depressing. Personally I'm not really into Oprah, but I'm glad she's doing a show on puppy mills - it's something that more people should be educated about, and so many people listen to anything she says (she's like their Pope-rah, or something...).
I also appreciate that she is doing the Show. But I can not watch it. I love all my aminals so very much that I can not watch them being treated this way. I am willing to read all about them. But I cannot watch it. Sorry..It would hurt to much !!!!These places should be taken away and also the people that have them. They need more than a slap on the hand...
I am setting it to record right now!
It will be hard for me to watch also, but with my box of Kleanexs and my husband next to me, I should be alright.
cfrich, LoL on the "Pope-rah' comment! Too funny! I hope she does make a huge difference.
Oh my. I just got through watching the show. :(
I did cry, alot, but I feel good knowing that maybe someone's mind was changed about adopting from pet stores.
I was somewhat suprised to learn that Amish families were one of the main culprits of puppymills. The show said that Amish treat dogs as "cash crop" or like an ear of corn. The breeding dogs never, ever set foot on the solid ground. They actually have to learn how to walk when rescued. And they spend their entire lives breeding in small rabit cages.
What was really sad, was when they showed us step by step of the euthinization(sp?) process. After the dog goes down, they throw them in black trash bags and send them to the landfields.
Ah...depression.
I feel confident in our choice to adopt from Animal Control.
I haven't watched it yet. I know I'll cry a lot, too. I'm kind of surprised about the Amish, though but not surprised about the euthanasia process.
We adopted last weekend!!! And yes, I saw the Oprah show about the "puppy mills". It was an amazing inside look at what goes on in these places. What bothered me the most is that one specific animal clinic (I think in San Diego, thought not 100% sure) euthenized 40+ animals a day, yet the puppy mills are still allowed to be run in this horrific manner... The puppy mills are producing more and more and more animals, while clinics are euthenizing more and more animals. Quite contradictory.
