Some Future Rescue Waggin' Passengers Need Help

Posted Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 3:54 PM

Sorry that I've been away folks. Life just gets in the way sometimes, doesn't it? Anyway, I got the following e-mail from several of my animal rescue friends. It seems that this month's Rescue Waggin' had a change of schedule, so some of the passengers need an extra 2 weeks of foster care. If any of you are interested, all the costs associated with the fostering is paid for by the shelters and humane association. Here's the info:

If anyone can foster dogs or knows of anyone who can for the Rescue Waggin', please contact me. RW is coming June 26 so it would be only 2 1/2 weeks. If we don't find fosters some of these good adoptable dogs will meet a terrible fate just because of lack of space (which is caused by people not spaying and neutering and allowing their animals to run free). Please forward to anyone who you think may help. Thanks.

I would like to say that my family has been fostering for over a year now. The humane association has been very easy to work with. Being foster parents to these sweet animals is very rewarding!

What is involved in foster care?

Steve, I can tell you what my involvement is in foster care. We got started over a year ago when a friend of mine was fostering 5 puppies and had to go out of town before the rescue wagon was coming. I agreed to help out. Kimberly Warren had a pen delivered to my house. We feed and water the dogs and give them lots of love while they are in our care. I bring them to the clinic when they need their shots or someone will come to my house to give them their vaccinations. There is no cost to me and they have even provided dog food many times for us. When it is time for the rescue wagon to come either I will bring them to the shelter or there are times that someone can come get them for me. It does take a lot of work keeping the cage clean, making sure they are healthy but it is well worth it!! The dogs do so much better when they are in a home environment with a yard to run in. Fostering has been great for our family. My kids are learning responsibility in helping care for the animals in our care. It can be hard to let go once you get attached to the dogs but knowing that you are giving them a better life while they wait for their 'forever home' is worth it!!

busymom, can you give me a call? I think we ought to do a story on pet fostering. A lot of people don;t know what it involves.
