All too often people take for granted the things they have in envy of what they don't.

Society today seems to always take on an 'It's never enough' mentality. New York Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez is likely to opt out of a contract that would pay him a base salary of $27 each of the next three years. His agent Scott Boras thinks it would be a savvy move to test the market in search of $30 million per.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, some folks are just happy to have healthy children and a job to support their family.

I won't question Rodriguez if he comes out after finding a new home and says he never would have enjoyed extending his career in New York or if he claimed he would be closer to a world championship elsewhere. But, if he or Boras come out with that 'fair market value' bologna, I may throw a rod.

They played that card before when he signed his current contract with the Texas Rangers. Look where that got him.

I agree,

The 'fair market value' is a bunch of bologna. I hope A-Rod will not follow suit with such athletes as Latrell Sprewell, Here's a guy making $14.6 million a season to play in the NBA back in 2004, yet he claims that he didn't know why he'd try to help the Timberwolves win a world championship because they aren't doing anything for him in terms of a contract extension. The St. Paul Pioneer Press quoted Sprewell as saying, "Why would I want to help them win a title? They're not doing anything for me. I've got a lot at risk here. I've got my family to feed."

Don't you think a lot of families would like to live off the .6 in Sprewell's contract? Come on, are you kidding me, $600,000 a year can get you lots of groceries and lots of fine meals out.

I hope A-Rod want make the same kinda of comments!
