KNOXVILLE -- How do you spell resolve? The Tennessee Volunteers spelled it L-I-N-C-O-L-N on Saturday after their kicker booted through the game-winning field goal with 2:46 left in the game for a 25-24 victory over SEC East rival Vanderbilt. Earlier in the contest Lincoln shanked an extra point and clanked a 41-yard field goal off the upright. The bad boots looked like they may cost the Vols not only the game but also their chance at going to Atlanta to play for the conference championship. "Daniel, even with the tough day he was having, came through when it mattered," Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer said. There's hardly any sign of a buzz around Neyland Stadium following the dramatics. Beating the 'Dores isn't supposed to be party-worthy. Then again, neither is taking down Kentucky, which is next week's opponent. LSU, the No. 1 team in the country, went to the Bluegrass State earlier in the year and lost 43-37. So, don't book your room for Atlanta just yet. |
