9:01 of agony

NASHVILLE -- The Tennessee Titans took a 17-3 lead on a LenDale White touchdown 36 seconds into the fourth quarter. It looked like victory was well within their reach. For a pair of 7-5 teams vying for a playoff spot, it could have very well been both the Titans and San Diego Chargers' most important quarter of the season. Tennessee took over with the 14-point lead in hand with 10:36 to play but ran a mere 1:38 off the clock. The next 9:01 were painful for the faithful at LP Field to watch as San Diego scrapped and clawed their way back to tie the game and head to overtime. LaDainian Tomlinson showed why he is the NFL MVP, scampering 16 yards for the game-winning TD when it looked like the Chargers were only jockeying for a field goal attempt. Now the Titans appear to need to cap their season with three straight wins to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2003 season. It was just awful! The Titans' play calling was too conservative after San Diego played the punt perfectly during OT. A bad ruling with no help from replay was the turning point. A close range missed field goal that turned out to be huge later on doesn't help either.
The Titans are just not a good football team and this seems to be the trend over the last few years. Very questionable draft choices and suspect trades have done them in. They just do not play a very exciting brand of football. Vince Young cannot manage a game very well and does not have a very good arm to boot. He makes bad decisions and is not accurate. Lendale White and Chris Brown are average backs at best. The receiving corp is weak. I look for the next few years in Titanland to be bleak.
Yeah the Titans are an avg team that will go 8-8 this year. Which I think is a good year. I never thought we would ever go 6-2 over the first 8 games. How ever the last 8 we may go 2-6. Which I think would be bad, but with that being said we have had a good season. This is just year two after the salary cap stricken season. I agree we have had a lot of busts ( Including MT's very on Tyrone Calico) But this year we have the money and Floyd is not controling the purse strings. Look at what Seattle has done, Shaun Alexander, Matt Hasselback, etc... We are in good hands in the front office and we will be able to surround VY with talent. Give it time we have at least another year of growing pains. 2009-2010 will be our playoff run.
