Bobby Petrino resigned recently from his post as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons to take the same position at Arkansas.

Several of Petrino's former players absolutely went off on him in light of the decision to leave, many calling him a coward. What's funny to me is how angry they are over their rookie coach changing his mind amidst a horrific season, but none of them seemed to care much when their quarterback was electrocuting dogs and backrolling dogfighting rings.

About the same time Petrino was climbing off a plane in Fayetteville, Vick was being issued a number, a blanket and some toiletries in prison.

If I'm a Falcon I would be far more concerned with who was running QB rather than who was wearing a headset on the sidelines. Vick gambled away several millions of dollars and set the Falcon franchise back several years. Remember how Atlanta basically traded Drew Brees and LaDainian Tomlinson for Vick?

Whoops. Called that one.

Petrino hadn't even finished putting his socks away before giving the keys back to the Falcons. Atlanta will find another coach soon enough, likely one better suited for life in the NFL. Good luck getting that top pick in the draft back or comparable market value.

Hope they sold plenty of No. 7 jerseys.

Great Blog!

I can recall when Petrino was flown down to Auburn for an interview when Tommy Tuberville was on the hot seat. And all the talk came up and I think that was the year Auburn won the SEC. Then again he was at the same program(Louisvile) where John L. Smith gave a press statement during halftime or the end of a game saying he was taking the Michigian State job.

I think the Falcon players are somewhat right to call out Petrino on this decision. Is Bobby P. going to do the same thing at Arkansas if things start getting a little tough? He had a pretty good run at Louisville, but he knew the cupboard was going to be a little lacking this year, so he bolted for Atlanta. Now that things are not going well in Atlanta, he jumps ship again instead of trying to work through it. The ownership in Atlanta was perfectly happy with him, was very supportive and understood that this has been a tough year for the Falcons, but they still believed in Petrino. It's rare when you have this vote of confidence from the higher ups when things are bad. Petrino may win some games at Arkansas, but I would not want him as a coach.
