Troop moving onPosted Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at 4:25 PM
Word on the street is that Tennessee wide receivers coach Trooper Taylor is moving on to take over as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State.
Rumors had Taylor leaving Knoxville to take over as OC at his alma mater, Baylor. Apparently the Cowboys saw that one of the best recruiters in the country and an energetic young coach was on the market and pounced. I wonder how much of a pay hike Taylor is getting. Boone Pickens donated $165 million to OSU and apparently gets to decide on a number of ways it will be spent. I imagine with that kind of cash flowing around they told Troop to name his price. Here is a link to their stadium improvements: http://www.okstate.com/fls/200/stadium/s... Taylor was always one of the best interviews around. He didn't pull any punches when talking about the Vols and showed more enthusiasm than several of the other coaches combined. His departure again leaves a void between the players and coaches in terms of being able to relate to how things work with the modern-day athlete. I applaud Trooper Taylor's move to Oklahoma State. I hate to see him leave the Vols, but I'm sure that we'll survive. Coach Fulmer probably has a list of very qualified folks to replace Coach Cutcliffe and Coach Taylor. I trust him to make the right decisions in hiring the best folks for the positions vacated by the departure of these two men and any others who may be leaving.
It is very difficult in this day and age to keep a college coaching staff together for very long with the amount of money that is flying around to lure them away from their present jobs. One can't blame assistant coaches for wanting to move up in the ranks. It happens every day. I hope and I trust that Coach Fulmer will bring in equally if not better qualified coaches to replace the ones leaving.
