Friday's paper will include the annual Times-Gazette high school basketball section.

In the 12-page tabloid, writers Gary Johnson, Jimmy Jones, Chad Tracy and myself met with coaches of the teams we follow the most to dissect what each of them thought about their chances this postseason.

I haven't put in the time covering Bedford County athletics as long-time sports editor Bo Melson, but I have to say that this year's crop of local teams is the deepest from top to bottom since I moved here in November 2004. Shelbyville, Webb, Community and Cascade girls and boys teams have a combined record of 99-63. Three teams -- the Eagles, Eaglettes and Champions -- all attempt to defend their respective district titles.

Victory Baptist also owns a spot in the tab and Shelbyville's tiny private school should be pleased.

There wasn't much time to prepare and research like each of us would have liked due to a full slate of middle school games recently, but we hope our readers enjoy what we could put together.
