End of the roadPosted Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 11:36 PM
Saturday marked the end of the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro, which included a state championship by the Forrest Lady Rockets in softball.
Fellow Marshall County school Cornersville placed third. I got a chance to watch the Class AAA baseball state championship behind the lens in the dugout on Friday afternoon at Lipscomb University and was not disappointed. Both Bartlett and Farragut battled but in the end it was east Tennessee's Admirals taking home their fifth state crown. I'm not sure I've ever seen a high school team swing the bat all the way through the order the way Farragut did. Bartlett ran through five arms in attempt to cool those hot sticks. Before the diamond action was the Webb-St. George's marathon championship match in the stadium at the Siegel Complex. Feet keeper Zach Crownover protected the twine web behind him with cat-like reflexes throughout and it was entertaining a match as I've ever seen. It was sad to see our Bedford County boys walk away disappointed, but there was a feeling through the blue shirts that they'll be back. That's the beauty of the Spring Fling. I encourage all within driving distance to check out the action because you never know just what you'll see. With the action being 30 minutes up the road, it's a can't-miss event.
