ATHENS, Ga. -- Will somebody kick the drawing board over and burn it, please?

The voices sound different but their messages are all the same around the postgame press conference at Sanford Stadium following Georgia's 26-14 win over Tennessee.

"We're going to go back to work this week and try to get better."

You might as well toss out a rubber stamp to the coaches and players before they head out to face the microphones.

Truth be told, few of them have any answers for what's going on. There are more than enough shoulder shrugs and confused looks. Everyone says practice is going great. There aren't any injuries to any key players. Coaches are getting along. There's no dissension.

What it comes down to is an simple inability to execute.

A ground game that used to be a trademark of Volunteer football yielded one first down and 1 net yard total. They piled up 10 penalties for 97 yards, including some calls that could have gone either way that came at the most inopportune times.

Personal foul penalties on Demetrice Morley and DeAngelo Willingham with less than two minutes to go in the first half helped push the Bulldogs toward a momentum swinging touchdown 9 seconds prior to halftime.

"If you get a personal foul penalty, that's usually a loss of composure," UT coach Phillip Fulmer said. "I think the frustration of the season is showing through. Being competitive versus being stupid ... that's part of it."

It didn't get any better from there.

Georgia dominated time possession 42:04-17:12.

The numbers that stick out most of all: 2-4 and 0-3.

It's tough to go back to work with that in the back of your mind.

I see Fulmer's head on the chopping block if they don't start picking up.

I believe some of those penalties were not even close, and wish they could do reviews on those, like plays.

BUT even my wife, who rarely watches football, could see that at the very beginning of the game, before the ball was ever kicked, Tennessee did not come ready to win a game.

Just compare the way Georgia ran on to the field to Tennessee jogging on. They did not have the fire in them to win against a team like Georgia. It was over before it started.

The defense did an admirable job and by the end of the game were probably out of steam, since they played much more than the offense.

When the fire is missing, I look at the coaching staff. They may not be arguing, but maybe they should be. They need to get their OWN fire going.

When is new offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Dave Clawson going to catch some major heat?

UT is trash plain and simple, I will say it every week or everytime a column is written about them. its plain as day its time for Fulmer to go.

Volhater,

If the Vols were to fire Fulmer for the way the season has gone, who would you hire to replace him and more importantly do you ask your big time money people to buy out his Multi-million dollar contract?

This is coming from a MTSU fan? A lot of people want to fire Fulmer but I have not heard any names from the talking heads.

Fulmer has been a good coach and can probably still be a great coach, but the "fire" is missing and he is the head honcho, so.... the credit or blame falls on him.

However, NONE of our players or teams are "trash". The last time I played football, I remember a lot of sweat, pain and hard work. None of them deserve that kind of label.

to respond to the last two posts, first of all i will refrain from calling them trash(bad choice of words) but my disdain for UT football remains and part of the is due to the fact that they are treated as if they are the only college football team in the state, but thats another rant for another day. as far as a replacement for big Phil I dont know. A young disciplinarian with tough love and knowledge of the game would be a good fit for them i am not sure who that is but he is out there somewhere. As an MTSU fan I hope I am not typing this message in a year or two about coach stockstill
