The Cascade Champions just keep on keepin' on don't they?
Even a steady rain and muddy surfaced couldn't slow down the fourth-ranked Champs as they plowed past region rival McEwen 55-20 on Friday night. Prior to the game, coach Kenny Parker was a little on edge in the early stages before the Orange and Black simply took the game over. "I was a little concerned before the game. We were very loose and that was good. Then, as we went out for our pregame, it sort of seemed to me as the game got closer to game time, we started tensing up a little bit. As the game went on, they just got loose again and went out and played. "Coach (Maurice) Carkuff and coach (Brent) Richardson had a great game plan tonight. The kids went out and executed it. I can't say enough about the coaches." This group has already gone where no football team from Bedford County has gone this century. They're 12-0 and have placed themselves firmly atop the football record books at the Wartrace/Bell Buckle school. But, how far can they go? Another region foe, Jo Byrns, awaits them this Friday night. The previous meeting decided the 5-A championship and came down to the last snap of the game. The winner hosts the McKenzie/Lake County victor in the semifinals. What a treat that would be. First things first though. Don't expect the Red Devils from Cedar Hill to just roll over. They appear to be cruising along as well and firmly handled Region 6 champion Wayne County last week. The first time Jo Byrns played Cascade, they found a weakness up front and amplified it. They have a history of doing that. We'll see how/if the Champs adjust this time around. Kickoff for what's already been tabbed as the biggest football game in Cascade history is set for 7 p.m. It'll be interesting to see what kind of crowd comes out. There is zero rain in the forecast but the temperature could be around freezing. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I'd love to be there, although I think I am beginning to nurse the flu. I have a Dr.s appt today.
Will the game be broadcast on any radio station?
Go Cascade! I really hope you win. Jo Byrns is not so great a team, they seem to get alot of lucky breaks and to depend on one or two players. They played dirty ball the last time I watched them, no sportsmanship.
As I told Danny, I was sitting at home checking the TSSAA web site Friday night, and the very first score they put up was flip-flopped -- it incorrectly had McEwen winning the game. I sighed, thought, "well, at least they had a great season," and started to write something on my personal (non-T-G) blog congratulating the team. Luckily, before I actually posted, I went back to the TSSAA web site to look at something, and by then they had the correct results online. The wrong figures probably weren't up for more than a few minutes.
I had better not show up Friday. The last time I attended a Cascade-Jo Byrns game, I put a screeching halt to their 2007 winning streak. :)
I'd also like to commend this entire coaching staff for an excellent job! Coach Parker had hired a new defensive coordinator to replace Coach Austin, but the guy backed out on him too late to get a replacement. Coach Richardson and the other defensive coaches stepped up and did an excellent job. After a rocky start, mostly due to implementing a new system, the kids are playing their best ball right now.
On the other side of the ball, you have Coach Carkuff.. What else can you say. The guy is on top of his game every week. Couple that with the two excellent kids he brought to our program and I can't begin to tell you how grateful we are to have all three of them.
Coach Parker is the glue that holds all this together. He has done a wonderful job of having these kids ready to play all season. We are very fortunate to have a guy who bleeds orange and black leading our team. He is a fine example for these young men to follow.
We also should thank, Sharon Edward, David Parker, and Dale Rucker for the support they've given these Coaches and players all season. The whole community is proud of each and everyone of you.
Can't wait until Friday night. I think the Champs live up to there name again and will be hosting the Semi-Final game is another week!
GO CHAMPS!!
Well, I will be there as well and I am sure that our kids can win if they play loose and don't make too much out of it. I get the feeling that we hype it up more than they do. I went to the Jo byrns game and I felt like our kids did not play well up there. We still won the game so that says alot for them. If we game plan as well as we did this past week we should be picking our bleacher seats next friday as well. :)
We are the CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!!!
Jicarney . . . I will probably go to the game so they are already doomed to lose so you might as well go too. :-P
Rebelrose,
I always wonder when I pass by and have been meaning to ask, without giving away too much info, but is that your house with the Cascade footballs next to the driveway and pretty fall deco?
You said you moved not too long ago and I pass it on the way to town and just wondered. I'm on the other side of the road, but on down a pretty good way.
Good luck Cascade!
This was suppose to be a rebuilding year for Cascade. Last year's Cascade team was almost entirely Seniors, 18 of them I believe. In August, when the season started, nobody expected to be playing in the quarter-finals of the state playoffs.
I've been watching the Cascade football program develop over the last 30+ years and this team is a very pleasant surprise. Every week someone new has stepped up to play an outstanding game. That's the personality of this team, they never give up and they never quit. This team has been behind in almost every game they have played this year. It seems like they don't start playing until the other team scores and they find ways to win then the game is on the line. This is a different kind of Cascade team than what you have seen in the past. This should be a great contest between two good programs. I hope both teams play up to their potential and leave all on the field.
The Cascade Band is worth the price of admission by it's self... It should a great atmosphere for a great game.
I didn't get hit by the flu truck..it was the pneumonia truck, so I won't be there.
Good luck Champions!! I'll anxiously be waiting for my Tennessean early Saturday morning!!
