Braves bring back Furcal

The San Diego Padres announced on Monday that they are no longer negotiating with teams to deal away ace pitcher Jake Peavy. Tuesday's news may change that.
According to MLB.com, the Atlanta Braves have agreed on contract terms to bring back former shortstop and fan favorite Rafael Furcal. The agreement is supposed to be of the three-year variety with an option in 2012. The Padres were said to desire either Atlanta shortstop Yunel Escobar or second baseman Kelly Johnson in any deal where they gave up Peavy. Since Braves general manager Frank Wren broke off talks several weeks ago, San Diego has traded away their shortstop, Khalil Greene, as well. Sounds like something might be in the works somewhere since both clubs have increased incentive to get something done, even if that may not happen until July 2009 at the trade deadline. Furcal has been injury-prone since originally leaving the Braves for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He batted .357 this past season but appeared in a mere 36 games. In 2007, he hit .270 and stole 25 bases but was absent 24 games. His last season in Atlanta was in 2005. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Looks like Furcal will probably head back to the Dodgers, according to his agent today. May have jumped the gun a little with this story.
Yeah, I saw that later in the day on Wednesday myself. This is quite perplexing. From reading the latest, it sounds like super agent Arm Tellem has to have some sort of loyalty to the Dodgers, whether it be his being a personal fan (not likely) or he may want to deal with them in negotiations with other clients of his.
