Free agent market

Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt should be thankful he's not in negotiations with Manny Ramirez and his agent Scott Boras.
On Thursday, baseball's biggest name left on the market turned down a 2-year, $45 million offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers even though the economy is what it is and no other team has come close to matching the Dodgers' offer. Reinfeldt still has his work cut out for him as the free agency period began earlier this morning. He now has to find a way to replace defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, who signed with the Washington Redskins for 7 years, $100 million. The rumors as to where exactly the Titans plan to devote their offseason spending are swirling. One would think they would at least make an offer to wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. He's not necessarily the No. 1 receiver that all teams seek, but he is very talented and could easily catch 70 balls in their system. Will they re-sign Kerry Collins? Brandon Jones? Craig Hentrich? We'll see soon enough. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I am so sad to see Haynesworth go, he is a great player. Don't know about $100 million, though!! I would love to see us sign Marvin Harrison.
I hate that we lost Haynesworth, and I hope we can keep Collins he is pretty talented.
We just re-signed Collins for a two-year deal. I agree with Reinfeldt on both fronts and he is really impressed me so far. We have to have Collins leading this team and we could not afford getting into a massive bidding war for a guy who bounces in and out of the lineup with injuries. He is a great player, but certainly not worth $100 million and like $40 million guaranteed. That is insane, stupid money for anyone, much less someone with Albert's history. Good decision, Mike, and keep doing what you're doing.
Quick update...
I think picking up Nate Washington is good for the 2nd wide out, leaving Hawkins the 3rd man in the slot. I really hope Jovan Haye can get back to form. Jim Washburn has a way of getting the most from his players on the d-line. With that being said Haynesworth had to get paid, but will he have the type of coach Washburn is who cycles his players keeping them fresh. I think he is the best d-line coach in the NFL. Anyway I hope we go linebacker or defensive tackle in the 1st round. Leave the WR's to free agency if we never drafted a wide out I would be fine with that.
I think the Titans could still use a legit No. 1 receiver but those typically come with heavy price tags, both in terms of contract and trade value. Washington is a solid pick-up. I like the idea of Hawkins in the slot. Like I said a year ago, he reminds me a lot of Derrick Mason, only without the mouth.
They have a lot more money to do spread around now that Haynesworth has jumped ship. There are several free agents that could come in and help. Jason Taylor is a name that comes to mind. I think they need to go after a starting guard either in the draft of free agency. It wouldn't hurt to use a pick on a talented linebacker to learn from Bulluck and Thornton before their time is up as well.
Parker,
All great points... I did not think of it... but Jason Taylor or a Jason Taylor type would be nice to add. I think we may go offensive line depending on if the Titans sign David Loper, he has been a good utility lineman the past few years. It's players like Loper who can use free agency they way it was designed for... Example: a utility player for one team, becomes a possible starter for another team. I hope he is back and maybe he will address the guard spot. Yeah I think going linebacker early would be a great. Most of the mock drafts have Heyward-Bey from Maryland coming to the Titans, he seems to be rising on a lot of talking heads sleeper pick list with his combine numbers. I saw him when Maryland played MTSU in 08. He ran great routes and I taped the game went back and he is a good blocker. Maryland loves to run and we all know that is the Titans bread and butter so I would be happy with him I have to be honest, I just think going after free agent WR's is just a better invest than drafting wide outs... They just seem to take some time to adjust to the NFL then other positions.
