TBCA poll released

Posted Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 2:07 AM

The Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association released their first high school poll on Monday.

Despite having lost seven key members from the teams that went 58-16 the last two years and their head coach, the Cascade Champions open up ranked No. 3 in the Class A poll.

The Champs are 13-0 and have their work cut out for them if they want to stay undefeated by week's end. They take on No. 10 Middle Tennessee Christian (9-5) today and Wednesday. Later in the week they travel to battle top-ranked Lookout Valley (16-0) and Columbia Academy (8-1) in the Lookout Valley Classic.

Cascade shrunk the field of undefeated teams in Class A from three to two by taking out CA in a 14-inning thriller on Friday.

While Shelbyville Central didn't make it into the initial Class AAA poll, they know they have what it takes to hang a loss on some of the best squads in the Volunteer State. The Golden Eagles beat No. 9 Coffee County (13-4) on March 18 and gave Columbia Central (11-3) their lone District 8-AAA loss last week.

Shelbyville's two-game set with Tullahoma starts today at home. At this point, the top spot in the 8-AAA standings is up in the air. A sweep over the Wildcats would go a long way toward earning a high seed in the district tournament.
