This week's Friday FivePosted Friday, October 19, 2007, at 8:50 AM
Five quick thoughts for the weekend:
•Shelbyville has too many manhole covers and drains sunk so far below or raised so far above street surfaces that they’re capable of causing vehicle wheel alignment damage.
•Has anyone noticed an odd odor around the Belmont Avenue-Cliffside Drive intersection recently? It seems to have lessened some in the past few weeks.
•Should an intoximeter be installed at Fisherman’s Park? It appears much of the activity there is fueled by alcohol.
•From a parking space point of view, Shelbyville needs a new post office.
•In other places, especially in the northeast, old schools and public buildings are converted into condominiums or apartments. Wonder if the old Central High/Harris Middle School or Union Street hospital buildings could be sold for such uses. Or do we want to sell them and the valuable land they occupy to private developers? Keep in mind, if the city/county did as they should and didn’t grant deep-pocketed developers any tax breaks, privitized ex-public land could bring in quite a bit of income for the county.
