Here's a unnecessary state expense we all helped pay for.
"JOHNSON CITY (AP) -- State transportation officials are buying eight new condominiums in Johnson City, saying the buildings block sight lines for an improved highway.
"State transportation department spokesman Travis Brickey says the condos weren't built yet when plans were approved to widen Tennessee Route 36 to five lanes. They went up as road construction was under way.
"...The state has bought most of the condos and plans to wreck them this spring."
Seems like whoever built the condos would be at fault since the road plans were already in place.
Sarcastically speaking, maybe land along Shelbyville's upcoming new bypass could be turned into personal profits at state expense. Just build something in a critical location, hike the price and make the state pay.
