Just the bear facts

Posted Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at 6:56 PM

Take a look at this bear with a jar stuck on its head.

Would you have shot it, as Minnesota wildlife officials did when it wandered into a small town?

This made me wonder what would happen if a bear wandered into Bell Buckle (they'd probably start an annual observance of The Day Yogi Bear Came To Town) or Wartrace during one of their many annual festivities.

I'd tend to think the Minnesota wildlife people could have shot it with a tranquilizer gun. But maybe I'm too soft on animals, especially considering that bears usually kill humans without a second thought.

Oh, how sad :(

They seemed to have had plenty of time to get prepared for the bear and I did not realize that tranquilizing darts were that hard to come by.

Humans were the cause for the bears condition in the first place with the trash jar, but I was not there so.....

Maybe we should have a festival in the bears honor anyway!

I'd have used some rock salt on the fool who left the jar out.

(Or,I'd have someone ask of the owl who lives there how to loosen a jar from the head of a bear.)

It's better for the bear to be shot humanely than to die miserably or hurt someone but couldn't he have been tracked, tranquilized, restored to health then placed somewhere he and humans wouldn't infringe upon one another?

Here's an update: The situation over that bear is becoming ridiculous.

FRAZEE, Minn. (AP) - The police chief in Frazee says his department has been fielding threats for killing a bear that had wandered into town with a jar on its head.

Chief Mike Lorsung says some emails and phone calls have referred to putting a jar over an officer's head and shooting him, or chopping off certain body parts.

Yikes!

What are they planning on doing with the body parts- sell them to impotent Chinese bears?
