GOP calls in the blondesPosted Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at 8:42 AM
Here we go again.
The latest Republican advertising attack on Barack Obama includes images of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.
It's allegedly an attempt to negatively tie in Obama with celebrities in voters' minds.
But I'm convinced there's something deeper involved.
Remember a few years ago when, shortly before the U.S. Senate election in Tennessee, an TV ad showed a blonde woman making flirty comments about Harold Ford Jr.?
It's rerun time. Broadcast an ad showing images of blonde women and a black man and stir up undecided voters who, maybe without realizing it, have problems with mixed-race relationships.
Too bad that some would consider subtle racism has to occur. It's the norm, though: Do whatever it takes to get elected.
