Depot Street squeezePosted Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 1:36 PM
Success, again!
Every weekday morning I drop by the police station and sheriff's department to pick up reports. Most mornings, I come back down the one-way portion of Depot Street. It's a tight squeeze. From a traffic pattern point of view, maybe it is an improvement. But it's almost impossible to drive through there when large pickup trucks or SUVs are parked, especially if the drivers didn't pull all the way to the curb. So...is one-way working for you? I just visited Shelbyville on Mother's Day week-end and I tried the new Depot Street. If I were living there now I would vote NO for keeping the current configuration.
I don't like the two way. Larger vehicles are out in the road... they can't see you when they pull out. I think its way too crowded. What happens if there is a green light when someone tries to back out then cars are stuck in traffic then the light turns red and the cars are blocking the intersection in front of Jo Jo's clothing store?
I think it is a tight squeeze too, so I avoid it. Better as a two lane.
I think it was better as a two way. You can't see pulling out of parking spaces or the side roads. I think it will not be long before the accidents start.
In my opinion, it's an accident waiting to happen. I fail to understand why it was even done.Even less room there now than there once was. So I vote no on the change being permanent.
I just drove down Depot St. this afternoon and was thinking to myself what a tight squeeze it still was. I almost think it was better as a two way.
It is very hard to see around the cars parked beside you in these parking spots especially if you drive a smaller car and the car beside you is much larger. You end up in the road before you can see around the vehicle beside you..I know, I was almost hit there backing out of a space last week :>(
But other than that the one way road does not bother me either way.
I like the one-way BUT I have almost been hit TWICE by vehicles backing out of the space..
It may be that you can't see what is coming until you get almost backed out...I haven't pulled in one to know....
