Possibly a close call

Shelbyville may have come closer to a tornado strike than we realize.

It occurred to me that reports of funnel clouds came from Temple Ford Road (and I wonder if that was actually Temple Ford Lane, about two miles to the east), the new subdivision off Hendon Memorial Road, the Edgemont area, H.V. Griffin Park, Canova Drive (just to the east of the park) and Wartrace.

Plot those locations on a map and you've got a straight line from southwest to northeast.

Could that have actually been a funnel cloud going up and down?

I was at the T-G office at the time and kept going outside looking at the clouds. No funnels, but one layer of clouds speeding south and a higher layer heading north. Definitely a turbulent sky.

we watched it from my back yard, we saw it form but never touch down.

I live on smith street, it was interesting to see the clouds come from one side and then meet from the other and swirl. Thank god it never formed fully and hurt anyone.

Ok, this is so totally off topic...... I just found out you used to could order houses through Sears and Roebuck catalog. That just amazes me for some reason. I know you are up on history around here, know anything about that? http://www.oldhouseweb.com/architecture-...

We actually have copies of the old Sears and Roebuck home catalogs that gave the prices and plans. Montgomery Ward also sold home packages. I think most of the catalogs are 1903, 1904, 1905, etc, etc.,,
