Picturing the Past 9: At the storePosted Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 10:27 AM
Handy Dandy Market, from February 1963. (T-G File Photo)
It was noted that its current building is the old Bud's Drive-In. Seems like I remember Bud's being located at what would be the middle of Celebration Drive today. Correct me if I'm wrong.
A personal memory in this photo: That's my parents' white 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne on the right. Amazingly, I think I've seen that actual car around Shelbyville once or twice in the past year or two.
The flat-top 1960 Impala at far left would definitely be a collector car today, as would be the Studebaker Lark second from left.
That Lark could have been purchased at Dixie Motors, which was across the street in the current Domino's building in 1963. Seems like I remember they had a garden of sorts in front and often kept a Studebaker parked within it. That's a 1954 Ford to the left of the Biscayne.
Picturing the Past is featured in this blog each Tuesday.
