Watch out on 41-A South

Posted Sunday, June 14, 2009, at 3:52 PM

I just got back from Tullahoma on this Sunday afternoon and their city police were stopping speeders coming and going as 41-A enters Tullahoma.

It seemed like more enforcement was going on there than what I'm used to seeing. Bonnaroo, maybe?

On my way back, a Tullahoma officer was doing a traffic stop across the Motlow College Road turnoff in Moore County, which I thought was some distance past the city limits.

Hit those brakes -- or be ready to pay, apparently.

If you're not speeding and obeying all other traffic laws you really don't have much to worry about.

Those who complain and ridicule police are the ones usually breaking the law. Go figure.

I grew up in Tullahoma, and this is indicative of the way the police force there does business. They do the same thing on the other side of town on 41A leading to Winchester. They get there money from ticketing the folks driving into Tullahoma from both directions. They at one time tried to annex a section of 55 leading to Lynchburg, and actually set up speed traps outside the city limits in Moore county, which is one of the reasons Moore county went Metro. The way Tullahoma treats outsiders is one of the reasons I moved to Shelbyville after getting out of the military, and its the reason that Northgate Mall has gone under. I would rather drive to Franklin or to Murfreesboro to shop than drive the 15 minutes it takes me to drive to Tullahoma. There are a lot of good people there but the police department has always made a good bit of their income from tickets from people from out of town.

David, I saw the same thing last Saturday. One set up just as you enter the city limits, another one at the Knotty Pine, and one at the movie theater.
