You can believe the expression that lessons learned in sports apply to other areas of life.

I was filling in for the sports guys Tuesday afternoon and grabbing a photo of Central High coach Brad Frasier's Golden Eagle Baseball Camp.

The afternoon session was geared toward pitchers and included guest instructors Rex Brothers and Jordan Cooper -- two stars you just may be familiar with.

Both are pitchers who were drafted by the major leagues a few days ago.

The last 30 minutes or so were spent with Brothers, Cooper, Frasier, former Shelbyville star/current Belmont player Drew Turner and recent Webb grad/current Legion pitcher Jordan Burchett, among others, talking to campers about the mental approach to pitching and how they achieve success.

Their advice: When you're on that pitcher's mound, you OWN that game. Take the attitude that no one is going to beat you. If your game's not going well, stay cool and don't let it get you down. Stay focused. Believe in yourself.

Good advice for us all -- not just pitchers or athletes -- in many areas of life.

I watched some drills before the talking started. Some of the campers looked quite impressive. Looks like the future of Shelbyville baseball's in good hands.
