Picturing the Past 44: Depot St. in '56Posted Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at 9:46 AM
This Goodyear store was on Depot Street in 1956. (T-G file photo)
Where was it? I'm guessing it was just east of the longtime furniture store (Woosley & Thomas, Clifford, whichever name you remember) and before North Jefferson, and in the area which today is a vacant lot just west of 82 Bypass. And I may be totally wrong, so feel free to correct me. Was this the location from which Goodyear moved to North Main in the mid-1960s?
Looks like someone had a nice '55 BelAir 2-door sedan in for service (I always notice the classic cars...)
To the left is ---- And Co. (name's cut off, unfortunately) and to the right is David P. Ra--- Jewelers. Can you fill in the blanks? Was the jewelry store operated by a David P. Raney by any chance?
TRI-TONES NOTE: Several reader comments were left over the past few weeks about the singing Tri-Tones from Bell Buckle.
Marcia Manley, a member of the group, died Jan. 11, according to an obituary in The Daily News Journal of Murfreesboro. Following her singing career she spent much of her life as a high school teacher at Tullahoma and Murfreesboro Riverdale, the obit said.
CAN YOU HELP? A Times-Gazette reader is running a classified ad seeking pictures and names of old mills along rivers and creeks. The number's (931) 294-3626.
