Those useless penniesPosted Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 3:01 PM
The owner of a Shelbyville barbecue outlet has declared that he's not accepting pennies any more. For example, if you buy $15.68 worth of barbecue, he'll round it to $15.65.
Good for him. I'm not a big fan of pennies. To understand their uselessness, realize this: I have a box in which I keep loose change; eventually they go to a bank or change machine. Almost all the change in that box is pennies. I don't often use pennies on a day-to-day basis, simply get them back. I realize that pennies become crucial when the issue of the exact price of things comes up. And I imagine for most people the $$ amount of pennies spent/saved would be surprisingly high if counted over a period of years. But to the spender, pennies just don't get the job done. I LOVE using pennies in our fast food restaurants and convenience stores where our younger generation are more likely to work. When I use the correct pennies it is so much fun watching those that have not learned to count money.
When we use cash we give the cashier paper money and save the returned change for our main yearly vacation. Since w edon't use it for our smaller trips we generally have between $800 and $1100 per year.

hahaha.,,,I give them a $5 and my purchase is $4.97 if they didn't punch my $5 in the register they COULD NOT give me the right change..But I LOVE IT when my purchase is $4.25 and I give them $5.25. They think I misunderstood them instead of just giving me my $1. OR the dishonest ones who don't even acknowledge and thinks I misundestood them and try to keep my $1. hahahaha
I keep my pennies in a big jar until I have quite a few. I then take them to Kroger and cash them in at the Coinstar machine and have a little extra grocery money.
