Olympic thoughts

Posted Monday, February 22, 2010, at 3:45 PM

Just a few tidbits while checking in on the Winter Olynpics Sunday...

I can't figure out curling. It appears to me like janitors clearing the way for a moving teapot. I've got lots of respect for the guys who play that sport, but face it, it's sort of different.

It sort of surprised me that one of the U.S. ice dancing pairs chose Dixie Chicks music at an international event, considering the trouble Chicks lead Natalie Maines got into a few years ago for criticizing George W. on foreign soil.

Speaking of ice dancing, some critics have complained that NBC's prime-time Olympic coverage has featured too much of that sort of event as opposed to what some may consider "real" sports (that's the critics, not me, saying that). What do you think?

And my favorite events have been the skiing and bobsledding. Skiing is sort of like stock car racing: At some points you're expecting an accident. Bobsledding makes me just want to get on one of those and take off.

I didn't listen to the Dixie Chicks before the controversy and I don't listen to them now. I don't think anyone has made much of an issue about the fact the song was used except in this blog. I didn't hear anyone on NBC say anything about it. So your rant wonderwhy, is much a do about nothing. Seems the one stirring the caldron here is Mr. Melson.

I don't think that people cared that they said anything, they went to another country and badmouthed our president. In my opinion Natalie M can go...I really am rooting for a good showing in hockey and I love the alpine skiing.

I wonder if the people still hanging on the comment against Bush by the Dixi chick, will be so up tight about people who are bad mouthing the current president? If not may I use the word "hypocrites" to address them? I doubt there are more than a couple people who would have ever even thought about that incident, from so many years ago, I would tend to think that people are more interested in the dance the couple did and the olympics, unless they are just wanting drama at any and all levels.

It is very hard to believe that after 7 years, people are still commenting on a 13 word statement made by Natalie Maines especially, with the amount of negative comments that have been made since then... As for the ice dancing couple of Samuelson/Bates choosing the great music of the Dixe Chicks, I say fantastic choice!!
