Purses just aren't a man thingPosted Monday, November 8, 2010, at 11:37 AM
Is this a purse? It is, according to a clerk at a book store.
So far, so good. Got the usual perks such as emailed discount coupons and a few other freebies.
"And here's your purse," the clerk said, handing over a cloth bag.
Wait a minute.
I have several years worth of, uh, what I'll now refer to as personal carrying devices given to me by this store.
But I'd never thought of them as purses. They were always book bags or tote bags in my mind.
So I thought...Should I walk out with the personal carrying device hanging from my arm or shoulder?
Hanging loose from my hand?
No way. That's just not a man thing.
Or should I give it back to the guy and say, "Thanks, but no thanks?"
I ended up folding the personal carrying device over as if I were carrying a laptop computer and slinking across the parking lot hoping little kids weren't yelling, "Look! There's a MAN with a PURSE!"
A tag with "tote" on it hangs from the personal carrying device. Okay, 'tote' agrees with me.
But a purse? I don't know if I'll ever again think of a 'tote bag' the same way.
