Picturing the Past 93: Where is this?Posted Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at 9:48 AM
This photo was shot somewhere in the Shelbyville area in early December 1957. Your task: Tell us where. (T-G file photo)
It took me a little of bit of time to realize where this was photographed but suddenly it became obvious. Hint: The buldings are still there today. I'll tell you where this was shot after awhile. But I'll bet someone figures this one out quickly. Picturing the Past is featured each Tuesday in this blog. Reader contributions are welcome. My first impression is 231 North in what was known as the Robinson addition. Looks to me like we are looking South toward the hill where Wal- Mart is and probably in front of Mark Pirtle Ford.
That was fast. 231 Trailer Park is, I think, now in the large lot next to the house at far right with the '56 Ford parked in front of it. Interesting seeing Robinson Addition when it was largely empty. Those around then probably remember North Main looking like this but for someone like me who wasn't yet born, it took a while for me to recognize the location.
David, this is very interesting. I did not know the location. I had several guesses in mind but none of them included the Murfreesboro Highway.
I'm not sure if this is where we turned to the right in this pic to go West several blocks to the feed mill we talked about in an earlier blog, but this is very close. Also I can't remember how long we went there, because there was a mobile mill that we used about this same time run by a Mr. Rogers.
Could that building have once housed Reese's motorcycle shop?
I say 231 South about where the armory is now.Someone pulled out of Naron Rd and got plowed.
